“Fantastic service, excellent for kids”

Loved our stay at the Colosseo, the service was excellent - every afternoon we were brought free snacks and drinks as we lounged around the pool. We also had an issue where we lost our passports on the ferry (left a bag on there in the mad rush to get off) - George & his wife were fantastic in helping us locate it - they rang the ferrry, the police, and drove us down to the ferry dock & waited with us for an hour til the ferry came in (late) and we could get our bag back. It's just a short walk to a nice part of the beach, and to town. You have to walk through an area with salt pools, which some people said were smelly but we didn't find them offensive, and we were there in hot & sunny july. The place is awesome for kids - we took our 2&1/2 yr old daughter, but there were other families there with younger and older kids. The pool is warm with loads of toys for children, and the playground is great. Also really liked having grass surrounding the pool - didn't have to worry about my daughter slipping on wet tile. Recommend you stay here!

“A pretty nice place.”

This was my second time in Naxos and Aghia Prokopios particularly. I really enjoy Aghia Prokopios as it has a lot to offer and is the closest beach town to Chora.

Colosseo Star is a very nice facility. Our room was spacious, bright, air conditioned and clean. While the bathroom was clean, it was cramped and there was no shower and not even a real bathtub. There was a shower head attached to a flexible hose and you were supposed to sit in the small tub (seat built-in) and wash yourself. It was difficult to not spray water everywhere...including your towel and the toilet paper. Bathing here was a real drawback.

When I booked the hotel, I knew that it was not right in town. There were two routes into Prokopios, either past the drying lakes (which in the wet season would not be possible) and then along the beach or up the dirt road and then down the paved road (no pedestrian walkway here) and into town.

Breakfast was also supposed to be available...instead we received some kind of pastry each morning (if they saw us). This was not too much of a burden as we went to my favorite cafe in town.

The staff was very friendly and I can find no fault with them. There are several Colosseo facilities and one night on our way back to the Star, we were waiting for the bus when George went by in the Colosseo van, he picked us up and took us back to the star.

The Star also has a very nice pool.

While I would not recommend the Star, I would say that it is a nice place overall, but for location and the bath.

“Absolutely Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2010

Great apartments. Cleaned daily and with nice pool and kids play area. Beach, restaurants and shops are about five minutes walk.

What made this place fantastic was the service. Free collection and drop off from the port by George followed by amazing hospitality from his wife Maria. On about the fifth day she presented us with a free cake. Another one came along two days later and then it was every day until our final day when we had drinks, lunch, cakes and even a local candle as a gift. Her English isn't great, but she is the nicest hotel owner I have ever met.

Naxos itself is a lovely island. The beaches are fantastic, the water clear and calm. There is a shipwreck you can snorkel over in Prokopios and a lovely restaurant at the far end of the beach. Agia Ana is 10 minutes walk away and has tavernas directly on the beach.

I would definitely recommend Naxos and the Colosseo to anyone with kids. We were tempted by the properties on the beach, but the bars and restaurants make it a bit noisier (this is by no means a party island though) and being just a couple of hundred metres back meant that cicadas where the noisiest thing.

The only downside is that the quickest way to the beach and town is across a causeway over salt lakes. This is perfectly OK, it's dry and solid and many cars drive across, but it is a bit "odd". You can go via road instead which takes a couple of minutes longer, but the salt lakes actually became quite fascinating and we almost always went this way.

If you need Internet, it's free, but you need a laptop with Windows as the wireless wouldn't work on phones (one's that normally use wi-fi) as you need to logon to a provider.

“Colosseo Star Naxos”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 September 2009

My wife and I stayed in this fine hotel for 5 days at an affordable rate. They provided outstanding service in all areas with clean well maintained rooms and well maintained surrounding areas. The walk to the beach took approx 5 to 6 minutes and it is an open beach where if you desire to go full nudity you may. Local shopping for supplies or transportation or restaurants are all within walking distance.
The hotel is located off the main road and if driving there from the ferry or airport is a little difficult to locate. We called and they came to us and we then followed them to the hotel.Could use a sign on the main road. The day we left there was a canx of our flight and we simply called them and they came and picked us up and took us to the port to catch the ferry to the mainland. Very helpful staff and very friendly willing to do anything for you within reason. Had a very clean pool and drinks available at certain hours. Very informal Would stay again and hope to do so
