“Simply overrated... Bathrooms could use a door!!!”
The Mykonian Mare is the absolute contemporary hotel with Cycladic touches. Luxurious is not a word I would use to define this hotel, but then again, luxury is such a broad term...
We didn't dine in the hotel and we definitely missed breakfast, so I won't be able to comment on that (for once)... Arriving at the hotel on the agreed time, we had to wait for 2-3 hours for the room to be prepared, so we took advantage of the opportunity to get a head start at the pool bar. The staff was very friendly and quite competent, although they didn't seem very apologetic for the delay in getting us to our room on time.
The views are breathtaking, but then again, if you are in a Greek island that's usually a "given".
The room was interesting.... At first at least... The mattress was so uncomfortable, (actually there were two mattresses next to each other) which I found simply unacceptable... Every morning wake up was complemented with excruciating back pains. I am not going to mention the long crack on the ceiling, which I can of course understand but cannot excuse. It is a seasonal hotel, but then again these things should be sorted out prior to the opening.
The highlight of the room in my opinion was the fact that we had a glass shower in the corner of the room across the sink. The toilet and a second more private shower on the other hand, were located in a closed area in the corner of the room which lacked a door and instead used a beed curtain... For practical purposes, the bathroom should at least have some sort of air vent (I'll disregard the fact that in order to wash your hands you have to go to the main room where the sink is located). If I enjoyed this freedom, I would have gone camping instead. When I addressed this issue with the hotel staff, they explained that it is all part of the modern design of the hotel and that it is designed particularly for couples.
Concluding, the service seemed fine, the bartender was pleasant, the parking lot could use some asphalt in order to avoid all the dust whenever someone comes or goes, they should get a single and soft mattress for the double bed and the bathrooms could use a door (at least for the prices they charge the guests for the rooms) I am not sure all rooms are like that but I would like to hope that we were the only lucky guests to enjoy this absolute "luxury"...
