“Simply... amazing!”
If you're looking for a base for exploring Mykonos, with possibly the best views of the island, privacy, peace and quiet, large comfortable and cool rooms, the possibility to cook and make your own food if you want, and to enjoy a little authentic Greek hospitality... then we highly recommend Amazing View Hotel!
The rooms are among the largest we have seen in a hotel and were very fresh and clean, with pleasant colourful decorations and big windows to enjoy the views. The beds were huge! The kitchenette are very convenient and we enjoyed breakfasts on the balcony and a drink in the evenings watching the sunset out over the water. It was enjoyable to shop at the local market stands for cheap and very fresh fruit and veg.
Location is fabulous, driving up a charming narrow winding road up the hill to the hotel all decorated in the traditional white and blue. It's far enough from the centre to allow plenty of privacy - unlike many of the other resort hotels on the island - yet Mykonos town and a number of great beaches were only a couple of minutes' drive down the hill. All rooms have sweeping views of the bay, Mykonos town, St Stefanos beach and distant islands - we drove all over the island and didn't find a better view.
The hotel is run by lovely Maria, who made us incredibly welcome and along with her son Iacob made us feel like we were being hosted by a true Greek family rather than staying in a hotel... Maria respected our privacy and we only seemed to notice she was around when we actually needed her assistance. She was very helpful and able to recommend some great places to eat and drink - as well as the best 'secret' beaches around the island.
We had planned to split our stay in Mykonos between Amazing View and another more expensive 'luxury hotel'... but after one night in the other we checked out early and returned. We just felt so much more relaxed and at home.
As for complaints by other travellers about the hotel being far from the town... Mykonos is quite large and if you're not prepared to hire a jeep or scooter like everyone else then you might want to consider a smaller island or a crowded (and more expensive) beachfront resort. In fact for nearly all of the better resorts you would need to wait for a bus to get into town anyway. However we really enjoyed exploring the island on wheels and, yes the hotel is at the top of a hill, but how else could you get such a great view?!
One last thing to point out is that, although the star rating on TripAdvisor shows 3*, we're fairly sure that the hotel was certified as 4-star. It was certainly better than most 4 star hotels we've experienced.
We will without a doubt be recommending Amazing View Hotel to all friends and family heading to Mykonos... you won't be disappointed!
