“Ideal gites for young families”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2010

We stayed at Les Hiboux with another family in July - four adults and three boys of 5, 5, & 7 years old... and each of us had a wonderful time!

We stayed in La Vieille Maison, and whislt the gite itself was excellently equipped, clean, airy and spacious enough that we didn't fall over each other, what really made the holiday is the setting. Tim and Ellen have created a wonderful destination with a large sports field, ground level trampoline, two tree house/cabins, swings, stream, fenced carp pond, good sized swimming pool, boules pitches, barbies - even sheep! There's also a games room with fussball, pool and darts, a further barn with a table tennis table, an array of good quality sports equipment such as cricket, croquet and baseball and to cap it all an array of about ten bikes in varying sizes. Absolutelty no way could anybody, child or adult, get bored here! It also meant that the youngsters could virtually be turned loose in the morning and would reappear at some point asking for food, drinks or (inevitably) a plaster for some graze or other!

Tim & Ellen are also excellent hosts, popping in most days to tend the large veg garden, and are great for local knowledge, weather forecasts and such like, without ever being intrusive.

All in all a wonderful holiday and we will definitely be booking again for next year!

“Great holiday for families with children”

Great week. The children really had all they could have wanted and more, so much stuff on site, pool, trampoline, boules, table tennis, pool, bikes. The children played and played and made some lovely friends, we read our books and relaxed totally. The location for us was perfect, so tranquil and rural. We had a couple of excursions which were nice. We did not see the owners after the first day, they left us to it, but could have contacted them at any time, we simply didn't need to. We would all love to go back.

“Perfect Relaxation for kids and adults!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 August 2010

Les Hiboux was perfect for our reunion with 9 families (including 18 kids under 9 years of age) from all over the world. The owners made us all feel welcome and provided everything we could imagine....trampoline, soccer field, swings, swimming pool, boule, ping pong, many many bikes, sheep to feed, fish to feed, grills and simply an amazing atmosphere. Each house is independent (with kitchen, wash machine, etc) and because they are side by side, it's also practical to have large groups eat meals together, hang out together, etc.. The kids were free to roam and enjoyed their independence. Around the bend are many working farms, some of which give tours, sell eggs, honey, etc.....all of which makes the experience of staying at Les Hiboux one to remember.

Glad that we were able to provide all the necessary services and facilities for such a wonderful and metropolitan group. It was a pleasure having being able to provide for all the nationalities and happy that the reunion was a success.

“Great Place For Kids and Adults”

I stayed in La Grange, a beautifully renovated barn house, with my family (all 9 of us) for a week in June. The extensive and well kept gardens are great for the kids, with lots for them to do without even having to go anywhere. Very quiet and relaxing area giving you a real look at laid back rural life in France.
Thanks to Ellen & Tim for a great and memorable stay. You both really went above and beyond our expectations, a great service and a great holiday, thanks again.
Steven

It was a pleasure to welcome this family at Les Hiboux. We are very happy that this surprise birthday celebration at our gite La Grange, suited all ages of the group.
We hope to see them here again.

“Total Relaxation”

We've just spent a wonderful week at Les Hiboux - a group of 8 adults and 8 children aged 4 or under. Beautifully equipped and well-supplied gites meant that half the toys and games we bought with us weren't even necessary, a real bonus when you're used to taking half your house on holiday with you to keep the kids entertained.

A large, safe garden meant that breakfast was invariably eaten outside while the kids rushed off to play on the swings or trampoline or feed the sheep. The pool was a lovely suntrap, and quite large enough for all of us to enjoy at the same time.

Tim and Ellen are brilliant hosts - unobtrusive but always on hand with a bit of local knowledge (river swimming, weather forecasts etc) should you need it. All of us would heartily recommend staying at Les Hiboux, as we expect to again in the next year or two.

Glad that the facilities provided, proved useful and enhanced the quality of your visit to the area. Also pleased that you were able to get out and about to enjoy the Poitou-Charentes at it's best even if it meant testing the waters in some of the local rivers. Lastly very happy to have been in a position to provide a local info & weather service and offeer to act as arbitrator in the Big Boules Finale!
