“Oasis close to Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2011

We were somewhat hesitant about booking Villa Germaine when we read some of the other reviews but after staying one night we extended for another 10 we were so impressed! The food and accommodation were fabulous and apart from a few day trips we simply enjoyed the surrounds of Villa Germaine.

We are at the end of a 12 month holiday travelling around Europe and the food at Villa Germaine was certainly amongst the best we have had. We ate in every night and each and every course was beautiful, fresh produce, often from their organic garden, their own olive oil and their wonderful wine to complete the meal. The chef is creative and gives you a real taste of typical Italian fare, his passion for cooking is certainly evident.

Rosetta and Annibale were incredibly welcoming and made us feel like part of the family. Our two children aged 9 and 7 were spoilt everyday with kindness and treats. Nothing was ever too much trouble.

The family room we were in was a great size for the four of us and included a small fridge, full bathroom and air conditioning and views over the vineyards. The room was beautifully clean and serviced each day by the beautiful Maria Pia. The Villa is very quiet at night even when it is full and the bird life is abundant in the mornings.

The pool is set in the middle of a grassed area private from the main house and surrounded by olive trees. There are sun lounges and umbrellas and it is a great place to relax or for the children to play. Bikes are provided and lots of space to ride or to go for a walk. There were many outdoor sitting areas for reading and dinner each evening was served outside in wonderful surroundings and a great place to watch the sun go down. The grounds are beautifully maintained.

We found Villa Germaine a perfect way to relax at the end of our adventure. It is like an oasis as whilst it is located in an area of shops and commercial properties once you drive through the gates and up the cypress lined driveway you are surrounded by vines and olive trees and the surrounding views of villages on nearby hills together with farm land is a similar outlook to areas of Tuscany. It is only 30 minutes by train to central Rome and there are many supermarket and shops close by. Other towns easily reached by car are the towns around lake Albano and lake Nemi. Other people staying visited Pompeii easily within a day.

We were incredibly sad to leave this wonderful property made all the more special by the owners and staff who went out of their way to ensure you enjoy your stay. We recommend you consider Villa Germaine when wanting to stay in beautiful quiet surroundings yet so close to Rome.

We will always stay at Villa Germaine whenever we return to Rome.

“A memorable, enjoyable stay”

A beautifully restored villa in peaceful surroundings. Stayed for one night as we returned north before flying out of Rome - wish we could have stayed longer. Great rooms - spotlessly clean and well appointed. The owner and her family were most accommodating and friendly. Catering both at dinner and breakfast were very good.

Do bear in mind that Villa Germaine is an albergo and not a full hotel - in effect a restaurant with rooms. Dinner is not always available if not pre-arranged. We didn't appreciate this until we arrived but a dinner service was still provided for us, which was excellent and reasonably priced.

Overall - bearing in mind that we are not easy to please when it comes to hotels(!) - an excellent night's stay - most enjoyable, and reasonably priced. Would stay there again.

“Very disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 November 2008

We definitely did not get the best room, and on the Sunday morning at 6:30 there was one heck of a commotion under the window.
What seems to be offered in Internet brochures is not what you get.
The owner (woman) was most unfriendly. She came to us during supper to tell us we must please vacate the room by 10 as she had other guests booked (we have never stayed in any hotel after 10 in the morning) and we found it strange that she should want to point this out over dinner.

The bathroom was uncomfortable and very old fashioned with a shower head that does not work in the bath and an unpleasant smelling toilet.
The breakfast was really awful, the juice was off, the bread stale and long after we had been seated somebody came to ask if we want coffee. No eggs or other options were offered,
Then when we paid for our meal the next morning the owner debited the meal twice and after a long time of trying to contact her bank, she refunded us in cash. But her bank obviously also reacted to her phone calls which meant that we have to go to a great deal of trouble and expense in order to get payment to the Hotel.

“Le Chaud Et Le Fraud”

we stayed in this lovely hotel and really enjoyed the setting. beware of the owners that are total ammateurs. They have no ideas about how to run a business never mind a hotel.
they have diner wiht the guests at the same time and expect to be served before the clients. ridiculous when the cliens have to wait to served sometime up to 30 minutes between starter and main.
the setting is really nice and the property is beautifull. theer are what they call agriturismo. They produce really nice wine and olive oil.
In conclusion, stay there if you are not fussy about service and kindness.
