I went to this lodge to spend a few days in December with two friends and my father after an Amazon and Rio Negro 8 days cruise. The place is rundown & definitely lacking management. I overheard (talking to the staff and locals) that the owner was left by his wife some years ago and I guessed at the time that she (his wife) probably had a lot to do with the quality of the place & services before she left, as the site looks like it used to be well maintained and managed some year ago.
We took a tour with their local naturalist guide who had no shoes, no book, no binoculars and relatively poor English and scientific knowledge of the wildlife but good will and good local knowledge; he did the service in the restaurant too. We taught him many bird names and gave him our book and a pair of boots before leaving, he was really happy I think. The tour was really really badly organized: terrible (no) security measures, terrible suspension in the vehicle, the boat used was in very bad condition (with not enough life jacket for the number of occupants) and the tour made us stay in the sun for over 8 hours altogether. The guide had absolutely no way of communicating with the driver or outside world for the whole duration of the tour that spanned on more that 10 hours in all. By far the very worst tour I have ever taken (and I do a lot of guided trips in nature in all type of conditions).
My honest advice: avoid this place and prefer the better lodges such as the excellent Juma Lodge or the Marupiara Lodge. They may be a bit longer to get to, but hey, you came all this way, it is really worth it choosing your lodge properly.
