We had chosen this lodge as it was quite some distance from Manaus, looking for a more remote experience. The first disappointment was to see that the gate for the property was located right on the road, not in some remote spot as we had imagined. It was also located over 1 hour's drive from the river for the excursions.
On the first night the owner's partner also told us that the tour we were supposed to do on our 3rd day was cancelled, and we could either hang around at the hotel or could go to Manaus, Neither were what we had planned or wanted to do. Not a good start, and it was a real hassle trying to get an alternative.
In fact it didn't get much better. We felt like everything was too much trouble for the staff. They were not happy or friendly, and frankly made us feel like we were inconveniencing them.
The resort itself was probably nice once (interesting that the guest comment book left out only goes up to 2006) but it is now a sad place. If you can cope with a cold shower then it's also still fine in terms of being a place to sleep. (But the small pool was out of action, most of the advertised facilities do not exist. etc etc)
The real shame however was the guiding. The guide we had was not trained at all. And not just in safety but also in terms of his knowledge. He could do his scripted tour and point things out, but he was not able to answer any questions. He was also rude, especially to some Dutch friends that we made there, We made the best of it, and did enjoy the river scenery / wildlife etc but it could have been so much better with a proper guide.
It was a shame. Such a fabulous part of the world. Go - but don't stay at the Amazonat
