Great home,great room, veryclean,great breakfasts and wonderful hospitablity.

Quiet location in leafy part of Stonehaven, but easy walking distance of town centre with good choice of places to eat. Stonebuilt Edwardian villa in garden with ample parking. Elegantly furnished and decorated with many period features, but with feel of a family home. Bedroom was a good size, and comfortable with a view over the front (main) garden and all the usual facilities plus a free dram! Good breakfast with wide choice of food and the morning paper to read. Host most welcoming and accomodating.

The B&B is a lovely grand old Edwardian property with nice rooms and a great host. Our landlady Thelma was lovely. We (my girlfriend and me!) went to Stonehaven for the New Year Fireball festival and Thelma helped us find places to eat over the New Year holiday and also told us where to do get the best view of the festival. If I'm in "Stony" again, I'll definitley see if Thelma can put us up again!

When we arrived at Cardowan we didn't want to leave. The house is gorgeous (not a word I'm particularly comfortable with but it fits). It has a large entry way with a grand staircase making it feel like a small manor house. The owner says it was built in 1904 and it has that feel, but not as if it were old and faded but as if it were fresh and new as it was in 1904. The bedrooms are modern, comfortable and quite roomy. The bathrooms are modern and en-suite. The house is very quiet and with only two rooms is sure to remain that way. The house is surrounded with flower gardens and sloping lawns which we enjoyed immensely. The owner even had a fresh bouquet of lilies in the entry way which gave a relaxing and delightful fragrance.

The owner, Thelma Ritchie, is warm, welcoming and very helpful. As mentioned in previous reviews she leaves a decanter of whiskey in each room for a welcoming dram or wee nightcap.

The house is in a great neighborhood only a few minutes walk from the main square in town. But away from the hustle and bustle. The beach is just another block from there. There are plenty of restaurants in town with many Scottish and ethnic choices.

During our 8 day visit to Scotland this was one of our favorite stays. We've stayed at many nice places, and still this was far beyond what we are accustomed to. It didn't quite seem real that we could be staying in such a nice place.

An excellent full Scottish breakfast is available along with cereals and fruit.

I can't imagine staying anywhere else if we ever get back to the area and would heartily recommend it to friend or stranger.
