“La Hacienda, natural oasis in Las Galeras”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2011

Via the joined website www.larancheta.com we choose La Hacienda to stay for 4 nights during our stay in Las Galeras: peaceful, natural surroundings, no nonsense, basic but everything it needs to offer. La Hacienda is situated nicely located on top of a hill, only 10 minute walk to the beach. The gardens have lovely fruits available for the guests: papaya with lemon is really tasty! The homely feeling when cooking dinner in the kitchen with spacious common terrace area with view on the bay was superb! Also the pets (among them Prinske, a nice and beautiful ginger cat) give the place that personal and charming little touch of home.

Karin (Belgian) knows the area, the plants, the animals and gives great explanation during a horseback excursion to secluded beaches and natural treasures. La Hacienda is a perfect base to discover the beautiful beaches Playa Madam and Playa Fronton. We also did a walking excursion with the local guys helping Karin at the Hacienda. Knowing a little bit of Spanish is handy but the walk itself is more than worth the wile! The hike leads you to the spectacular view to secluded playa Fronton. You will see wild orchideas and if you are lucky some leguans. After climbing down to Fronton we walked towards Boca del Diablo where Karin picked us up to drive back to Las Galeras. We loved our stay in La Hacienda because it was a true experience of the area and what it has to offer.

We also went to La Rancheta (a 5 min. walk from la Hacienda) which has a smal outdoor restaurant where the Belgian chips where the best! We got plates filled with very tasty food. Ronald (Belgian) knows his way around the island and also offers car transfers. He dropped us in Santo Domingo with some tips which were very handy.

Do not go to La Hacienda if you like to party and want to have lots of other tourists around you. Go to La Hacienda for the basic back to nature feeling, the beautiful and relaxing surroundings close to the best spots to see in Las Galeras.

“La Rancheta & La Hacienda are both Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2011

I stayed 3 nights with Karin at La Hacienda. Everything was great! She is a lovely woman and very helpful. I found the Hacienda a very special place. (up on a hill)

I had Ronald cook for me one night at La Rancheta, and that was amazing too.

Thank you to both of them, I look forward to coming back. This was a very interesting part of my trip.
Monica :) Happy New Year!!

“ESCAPE TO PARADISE”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 March 2010

Being used to 5* all inclusive resorts, this vacation was a real change for us.
But the 2 weeks stay at la Rancheta were the most relaxing we ever had.
Back to basic but boy, what a relief compared to our hectic, planned lives in Belgium !
No must, just go with the flow and enjoy every minute of the fabulous surroundings, the beautiful beaches and the very friendly people of Las Galeras.
Ronald cooked us the best home made food you can imagine. We admire him for the
tasty dishes he puts on the table with limited kitchen comfort. Unbelievable and a lot of chefs can take some lessons from him !
Not a single time did we get sick so we got quality at La Rancheta.
Karin took us on a very romantic and adventurous horseback ride in the surrounding woods. We learned a lot about the plantation and former culture and she took us to beaches where we got the Robinson Crusoe feeling !
No line ups, no crowded stores or streets or beaches! Just lay back and enjoy the best of the Dominican !
Thanks a million Ronald, Karin, Gretia and William for giving us such a wonderful time !
We love you !

“Trouble in paradise”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2010

Our bungalow was infested with large roaches. They entered through holes in the walls that were located under a bench in the sitting area. Roaches have their place in nature, but their presence was extreme. We killed at least 20 of them that night and the next morning. We decided we could not spend more than our first night there, and the owners refused to negotiate any refund for us, and made us pay the full amount. for two nights. The area is breathtakingly lovely, and you can find other affordable and off-the-beaten track places. We enjoyed the rest of our stay.

“Nice room for budget travelers.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2010

We stay here more than week. The belgian owner Karin was very friendly. It was pleasure to stay here. Only one problem there is no hot water, but you can't find it in any other place on similar price. Rooms are small, just a bed and few rack, but it is not all inclusive :) About 40 minutes on foot to Las Galeras. From here you can reach Playa Madame ~40min, very nice, wild beach. Nice place for nature lovers.
