My real life is really stressful so I needed a break without any stress whatsoever, cellphones, internet, all that media stuff that we seem to have to have nowadays, you get it. (they do have cell phone reception though, so if you can't live without it you don't have to!)
Anyway, Homeplace Ranch is really only 70km from home but a complete different world. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, joking during mealtimes and just like that. They even taught me how to line dance, not that I'm any good at it haha :)
If you are driving to this location and are on 22X coming from Bragg Creek, you might miss where to turn off, for some reason there isn't a sign when coming from that way. If you hit the intersection where 22X meets 22 south turn around you went to far! there is a sign for it if you come from that direction telling you where to turn off, no idea why there isn't one from the other side, but then it's a beautiful drive so it really doesn't matter.
Once you turn off 22X you'll drive along a dirt road that has little lovely signs all along the way, some are bigger others smaller so pay attention ;)
When you finally come to the gate for Homeplace Ranch, there's a message board welcoming you, by name (that is if they know that you are coming though, obviously if you didn't tell them then there are other people's names on there but not yours)
You then keep on driving down the road a little more and eventually you'll see the 1st signs that yes indeed you are on the right way after all. Be careful when driving, the horses run free here!
Rooms are named after horses they used to have and a picture of that horse is in the room.
A horse gets assigned to you and stays with you for your entrire stay. There are lots of beautiful horses and you get one depending on your weight, height, riding experience, etc.
I rode for 3 days and it was so much fun, one day we went up to "StarMac's" (sp?) a lookout with a lovely view that's used to break, make a little campfire and boil some "cowboy coffee" in a tin. It looked good, mind you I don't drink coffee so I don't know how it tasted, but it did look nice :)
Meals are a family affair, where everyone joins one big table guest and staff the same and eat and joke together. Oh and let me tell you, the food is ever so yummy. Real good old style home cooked food.
There's breakfast and it's different every day, not like in a hotel where you get bacon eggs and sausages every day. Here they swap it up to not let food go boring. One morning you might get the full breakfast affair and the next it's sausages, and muffins and then again bacon and a hard boiled egg, or porridge or or or, it's amazing. Every lunch and dinner comes with dessert and if you feel like having a cookie inbetween meals just walk into the kitchen and help yourself from the big cookie jars. Bread is baked here and tastes so good :)
It really is a place that welcomes everyone, so it doesn't matter if you travel with friends or the family or on your own, you don't feel like you're alone if you are a single traveller. Everyone is very welcoming and since everyone interacts as if they were one big happy family, you get to know the follow guests too, which is a nice change from the anonymity of hotels.
It is so nice an quiet here, no traffic noise, no noisy neighbours, just the sound of crickets, the wind in the trees and of course the whinnying of horses when they have a conversation between each other ;)
I could keep going on and on, but you really ought to experience it for yourself, since it is really hard to describe with words.
All I can really say to the staff and Homeplace Ranch is:
Thanks so much for welcoming me in your little world and allow me to escape my little world. You guys ROCK!
