You are made to feel welcome from the moment you arrive. Rooms very comfortable, tea and coffee facilities in room as well as bottled water. Hotel located in a beautiful village with good local transport into Oxford or visit many beautiful villages in he locality. Food is exceptional and breakfast included in price. Can not be beaten we will certainly be going back.

Room Tip: We stayed in annex which was great

“Great 2 days celebrating 50th Birthday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

Spent two nights with famly and friends celebrating my wifes 50th Birthday. The food was great and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and went the extra mile in making our stay absolutely fantastic.
The Chef even made a Birthday cake and they allowed us to take over a complete area of the hotel for pre-dinner drinks and our own dining area. Everyone of our party thought the hotel and location in the cotswolds was just perfect.
However were a few minor niggles which is why its not 5 stars.
Main problem was with the plumbing, some radiators don't work and occasionally brown water came out of the taps. Also, the rooms could do with a little more care in cleaning i.e. cobwebs.
But overall, would recomend this hotel, especially for the exceptional service and care and attention provided by the staff and especially the manageress.

Room Tip: the four rooms in the annexe are all good, room 14 (double) especially nice and roomy, but shower on...

“Great Accommodation and Food in Charlbury”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

Located in the centre of Charlbury with a large private car park to the rear. A great alternative to some of the larger, overpriced places in Oxford and within easy reach of the Cotswolds. Nearby train service also puts you within easy reach of London.

We deliberately booked the refurbished annex rooms and were not disappointed. Superbly appointed interiors for a village pub but note that they are up a flight of stairs. As for the food; a really nice menu, well presented on the plate and extremely tasty as well. One of the best steaks I have had; ever! Even the "full English" was beautifully presented on the plate! Pleasant bar area with a welcome open fire.

As reported elsewhere, the French manageress was extremely helpful. Always smiling and nothing was too much trouble. We sometimes make our trip to Charlbury returning same day. Not any more! We will happily stay here on future occasions. Unreservedly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the annex

“The Rickards - Great stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011

Had a wonderful long weekend stay at this hotel. The Manageress could not do enough to ensure that our stay was memorable. Staff very helpful and friendly and both breakfast and evening meals were excellent. The room was clean and comfortable with a nice view. We would definitely recommend this hotel to our friends and hope to go back ourselves in the future.

“Excellent stay at The Bell”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

We LOVED our stay at The Bell Hotel. Friendly staff. Some of the best food we have had in England. The breakfasts were particularly good. The Sausages the locally made Pork & Leek Sausages, and the Smoked Salmon was utterly delicious. The bed was comfortable, and the room was lovely.

Charlbury itself is a lovely quiet village. It's perfect for exploring Blenheim Palace (just down the road) and a 30 min drive to Stratford upon Avon. We took the train into Oxford, the station is an easy 5 mins walk from the hotel, and only a 20min train trip into the middle of Oxford.

The television reception was poor, but we were so tired by the end of the day, that it didn't matter. We were disappointed that you couldn't get Wi-Fi in the rooms - you have to go to the bar area, but they have a very pleasant room next to the bar where you use your laptop.

Best of all lots of free easy parking.
