We rented a couple of rooms at this property in Aug of this year and stayed for 3 nights.
The ambiance is unique and sets you back in time in a good way. There is a celebratory theme to the history of the people and the place that makes one nostalgic for things past and leaves one yearning for more! Do note that there is a sense of living closer to nature, so expect some unkempt bushes, lizards and insects around the place.
The staff are amazing and courteous at all time. The restaurant serves some nice south Indian delicacies but note that not all of the menu is available during the week or when there is sparse occupancy (we experienced this even at INDeco Yercaud but the quality of the food here is so much better)
My only peeve is that the rooms could use some refurbishment - missing window hooks, light switches that don't work, cracks in the bathroom corners that lets ants etc inside.
However, do note that the rooms itself are quite comfortable and my notes cannot be generalized to other rooms.
They have some deer, peacock and ducks on the property - great for families with young kids / toddlers.
There is no internet connectivity here, so please plan accordingly, The staff are quite helpful if you need to connect urgently but I am sure they will be less inclined to share if people make a beeline for their computers.
Electricity fails quite often but they have a good backup generator that makes it quite seamless for the customers.
You should plan to spend some time at the property to check out the pottery and bronze works as well as the museum.
Note that this property was owned by Sterling Resorts until a couple of years ago and almost no one will help you if you ask for INDeco Swamimalai. So, ask for Sterling Swamimalai when asking for directions in Kumbakonam.
If renting two rooms, ask for two that have a common shared verandah... great to sit out together as...
