I spent 5 nights at Juma Lodge with my wife, sister, and two adult children. Here's what I said to them in an e-mail:
Obrigado. Thanks again for making our stay a wonderful experience. I greatly appreciate the efforts of the entire staff to make us feel comfortable and relaxed. The entire experience exceeded our expectations. I especially appreciated Haulys' knowledge, and expertise (despite his encouraging me to eat a grub from a coconut). Feel free to provide my e-mail to anyone from the US asking about staying at Juma Lodge. Rodger
It is NOT a "touristy" luxury site but we were VERY comfortable. Electricity is available 6 PM to 7 AM or so and again for 1-2 hrs in early afternoon. That's all you need to charge things and read at night. Otherwise, you'll be out and about in the jungle on scheduled activities that allow exploration of the Amazon jungle. Juma river pH is low so mosquito larvae can't survive. Bugs were only a problem on hikes and the staff very carefully identified those activities that might require repellant. Food was plentiful and varied enough that we all ate well. The place is small enough to feel intimate; but there were enough other guests that we had a nice time meeting people from New York, Brazil, Australia, and other countries. Each group was assigned to a guide who spoke their language when going out on a boat or hike. Our guide (Hauly) even invided my son to join them in a soccer game in a nearby village area. My sister is battling a serious illness and the staff (without prompting) noted this right away and was especially helpful and attentive. Write me if you want more information: RodgerAS@aol.com
