The Bretesche suited us perfectly.Unfortunately, we could only stay one night, but the friendly and attentive staff made us feel that we were the most important guests they had ever had. The special treatment starts on arrival when the person who greets you at the door explains that they will come back and get your luggage and park your car, and then conducts a tour of the property before showing you to your room. Another nice touch was the head waiter coming to greet us in the bar with the menu and taking our order while we relaxed in that charming former horse paddock! Although not everyone is going to get the head-waiter, we did see other people being greeted by other servers. So it is worthwhile to stop by the bar. If you don't drink alcohol by the way, they carry an exquisite line of bottled fruit nectars unavailable in the U.S.
Dinner at the one-star Montague was delicious and the server went out of his way to ensure that we were happy.
Despite an almost mythically Romantic setting and designer decor in the individually decorated rooms, there is nothing stuffy about the Bretesche. Rather you feel like a guest in a nobleman's country house.
The views of the lake with the castle (which is not part of La Bretesche's property) transport you to another age. Although people who want a lot of excitement and night life might be restless here, we were content to gaze at the lake and walk in the woods. Golfers have the option of renting an apartment or cottage right on the course. There is a pool, but it is small--after all, the Morbihan Bay beaches are only a few miles away.
Although Bretesche is on the edge of the small city of Missilac, it could be miles out in the country.Beautiful, peaceful, friendly and classy.
