“Peaceful and Romantic”

The Bretesche suited us perfectly.Unfortunately, we could only stay one night, but the friendly and attentive staff made us feel that we were the most important guests they had ever had. The special treatment starts on arrival when the person who greets you at the door explains that they will come back and get your luggage and park your car, and then conducts a tour of the property before showing you to your room. Another nice touch was the head waiter coming to greet us in the bar with the menu and taking our order while we relaxed in that charming former horse paddock! Although not everyone is going to get the head-waiter, we did see other people being greeted by other servers. So it is worthwhile to stop by the bar. If you don't drink alcohol by the way, they carry an exquisite line of bottled fruit nectars unavailable in the U.S.

Dinner at the one-star Montague was delicious and the server went out of his way to ensure that we were happy.

Despite an almost mythically Romantic setting and designer decor in the individually decorated rooms, there is nothing stuffy about the Bretesche. Rather you feel like a guest in a nobleman's country house.

The views of the lake with the castle (which is not part of La Bretesche's property) transport you to another age. Although people who want a lot of excitement and night life might be restless here, we were content to gaze at the lake and walk in the woods. Golfers have the option of renting an apartment or cottage right on the course. There is a pool, but it is small--after all, the Morbihan Bay beaches are only a few miles away.

Although Bretesche is on the edge of the small city of Missilac, it could be miles out in the country.Beautiful, peaceful, friendly and classy.

“Excellent hotel, more 5 star than it's officially rated 4 star.”

We stayed here for 1 night and had a blissful stay. Our room was not ready upon check in, yet that was no particular hardship given the beautiful day, so we took a stroll around the grounds, which being that it was a golf course were immaculately kept.
We were given room number 6, which was light and airy with very fresh and modern decor. We took a peep into room number 5 and were pleasantly surprised to see that each room had been individually decorated - the other room being of a high standard also.
We had drinks and canapes in the bar, which although was not inexpensive, was truly a lovely experience due to the fact that the bar used to be the former stables, and had been sympathetically modernised to reflect the past usage.
We had dinner in the Michelin starred restaurant, and the food was very nice, but we were disappointed to not get our first choice of menu due to the fact that they had sold out. The ambience in the restaurant was a little pretentious, and the food well presented but somewhat overpriced. However, the outlook was beautiful, overlooking the castle and the lake.
There are bicycles for the guests to use to take you around the grounds, on one of the three suggested walks/rides.
The pool is outside and is spotlessly clean, with very comfortable sun loungers around for your convenience. It was so peaceful relaxing around the pool, and we were sad that we had not booked a longer stay, but will definitely return, but will probably eat in the nearby town of Missillac which was very pretty, or in the hotel's club house.

Thank you for your comment on Tripadvisor, we are always glad to hear your feedback.
We are pleased to know you enjoyed the quality of the resort as well as the bedding and service.
The pleasant days we had enhanced the surroundings and were suitable for a peaceful and magical stay.
As I would have preferred your experience to have been a 100% percent one, let me just explain a few details.
Regarding you dinner in the Michelin starred restaurant, we couldn’t meet your expectations on the scampis. We receive our scampis alive the day before and effectively sold out the entire lot. This is the reason why we proposed lobsters instead.
Our prices ‘A la carte’ are effectively a bit higher than the menus. I’m afraid this is usual practice in the Catering Industry and we work the same way.
Nevertheless, I would encourage you to try our Menu at 56€ or 76€ next time, I guarantee you it will meet your expectations.
Should you come back to Domaine de la Bretesche, please do not hesitate to contact me to work on a hundred percent satisfying stay.

“Compared to where we stayed in the Loire this was bliss...”

The hotel is in a lovely town and the setting with the golf course is absolutely amazing. The first room we were shown was not up to standard but the second was 100 times better and we were very comfortable - king bed, sitting room, seperate bathroom/wc. Hotel has a Michelin star restaurant. Expensive and some of the food was good but on the whole wouldn't eat there again. Service let things down. Throughout our stay, there was an issue with wifi. There was no concierge on arrival. Golf was very enjoyable though and on the whole a good stay. Would recommend and stay again. We didn't eat breakfast in the hotel. Just as easy to go to the local shops and pick up what you need. There are no tea/coffee facilities in room. Well maintained hotel.

Nice property in an unique surrounding.
The room are ok, and the overall service very good, especially at the Montaigu restuarant and at the houskeeping. The service at the club house is not very friendly and the food served is average. For the golfer, the course is in the forest, and the views are outstanding. To play, the course is fine but nothing outstnding either.
Overall stay was fine, I am just surprise to stay five days in a property and nerver meet the GM........and dine five days in a row at the gastronomic restaurant and never meet the Chef (BTW, the food is very good, the service is perfect and it's worth to take the half board program).
We have enjoyed our stay but missed the hotel hospitality of a friendly GM.

“Not only for golf”

Handled professionally, room impecally decorated and furnished with care. Bathroom had 2 sinks, a bath/shower cambo and separate toilets.
SPA is another convincing arguments.
