“Almost faultless”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2011

We stayed for two nights in Room 17 which was stunning with comparable view over the lake to the Chateau. The restaurant food was absolutely fantastic with two pre- appetisers, appetiser, main, pre-desert, desert, cheese board and finally desert selection. The bar converted from a stable is superb and the room decor incredible. Latest digital Lowe TV with music centre, safe and fridge. Sofa, desk and plenty of room.

Only complaints were lack of baggage service and poor selection of recognised bar brands. No Soco and cheap white rum.

“Expensive with no WOW factor!”

Checked into Room 22 which was very nice if somewhat on the small side. Aircon worked but no WiFi access from room. We decided to eat in the Brasserie for two reasons. First, there was a large party of 28 in the gourmet restaurant which could have affected service and secondly, we were both tired after a long drive and not in the mood for “gourmet” food.
Service in the Brasserie was friendly and efficient. We both enjoyed our meal. The oysters were superb. Prices were on the expensive side. For example, a half litre of Paulaner was 9 euros which these days more or less equates to £9.00 sterling. Continental style breakfast came in at 22 euros per person – they are joking please! We really object to country hotels charging extortionate prices for breakfast (same as top hotels in London). We voted with our feet and headed of onto the auto route where we purchased 2 coffees and 2 croissants for 6.5 euros. The hotel is OK if you love golf. We used it as an over night stop-off en route to the south west but it did not have any WOW factor for us, so that along with their pricing structure means we will not return.

“Beautiful hotel and setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 August 2011 via mobile

Stayed here for a wedding. Gorgeous setting overlooking a chateau and a lake, beautiful pool, fantastic food, room was pretty large for Europe and elegantly decorated. Bed was huge and extremely comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful.

“Fantastic setting, but definately wouldnt go back”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2011

We were due to stay at this hotel for four nights, but stayed for only three. The setting was fantastic, but this has got to be one of the most expensive hotels I have ever stayed in. The hotel is set in the grounds of an old chauteau, and has a golf course. Our room was ok - the bathroom was very small. I did not rate the service for the prices they were charging - 21euros for a vodka and pineapple. You could not have afforded to have too much to drink at this hotel. Two drinks and a coffee came to 45 euros (I went to the Savoy in London a few weeks ago and the drinks there were a lot cheaper). They also charge 22 euros per person for a continental breakfast. The restaurants were ok, but once again they were expensive, and did not warrant the prices they were charging. On my arrival I asked reception if they had an plug adaptor, as I had forgetten to bring mine. They sent one up to my room (which looked like a second hand one that someone has left behind previously). On receipt of my bill I noticed I had been charged 10 euros for this, even though I was only borrowing it.
There is nothing in the area within 30 miles of this hotel worth visiting.
We drove around for over an hour looking for a restaurant that was open at 8 o'clock in the evening. I dont think the french residents can eat out much in this part of France, as there were hardly any restaurants, and none that opened in the evening. La Baule is about the only decent place to visit, and even then it isnt that exciting.
We definately will not be returning to this hotel or this part of France. Made me appreciate where I live

Dear Miss or Mr,

I thank you for qualifying the Bretesche Domain as 'Fantastisc' despite your dislike of the area.

I would like to draw your attention on the prices : we have fairly attractive rates for a resort or a four-star hotel (please check online).

Il will just state the facts regarding the prices of the drinks in the Savoy hotel in London :
Gin : Savoy : 10.5€ Domaine de la Bretesche : 10€
Vodka : Savoy :11.65 € Domaine de la Bretesche : 10€
Bourbon : Savoy : 10.85€ Domaine de la Bretesche : 10€
Coca light: Savoy : 5€ Domaine de la Bretesche : 5€
Beer: Savoy : 7.2€ Domaine de la Bretesche : 8€
Fresh orange juice : Savoy : 6€ Domaine de la Bretesche : 9€

Please keep in mind that whenever the agency adds its commission, it raises your prices !

Concerning breakfast, the agency paid for it and it was a buffet breakfast, not a contiental breakfast.

Regarding the plug adaptor : we asked for a 10€ deposit which is returned when the client gives us the plug back.

As for our surroundings, I'm sorry if it didn't meet your expectations.
We would have been glad to help you prepare your stay before your arrival.
The Brittany area, famous for its magical coastline in France and variety of landscapes, is well described on various websites which you can visit in order to fulfill your expectations. You may also visit our website, giving you informations about our resort and area.

Best regards,

“Peaceful and Romantic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 October 2010

The Bretesche suited us perfectly.Unfortunately, we could only stay one night, but the friendly and attentive staff made us feel that we were the most important guests they had ever had. The special treatment starts on arrival when the person who greets you at the door explains that they will come back and get your luggage and park your car, and then conducts a tour of the property before showing you to your room. Another nice touch was the head waiter coming to greet us in the bar with the menu and taking our order while we relaxed in that charming former horse paddock! Although not everyone is going to get the head-waiter, we did see other people being greeted by other servers. So it is worthwhile to stop by the bar. If you don't drink alcohol by the way, they carry an exquisite line of bottled fruit nectars unavailable in the U.S.

Dinner at the one-star Montague was delicious and the server went out of his way to ensure that we were happy.

Despite an almost mythically Romantic setting and designer decor in the individually decorated rooms, there is nothing stuffy about the Bretesche. Rather you feel like a guest in a nobleman's country house.

The views of the lake with the castle (which is not part of La Bretesche's property) transport you to another age. Although people who want a lot of excitement and night life might be restless here, we were content to gaze at the lake and walk in the woods. Golfers have the option of renting an apartment or cottage right on the course. There is a pool, but it is small--after all, the Morbihan Bay beaches are only a few miles away.

Although Bretesche is on the edge of the small city of Missilac, it could be miles out in the country.Beautiful, peaceful, friendly and classy.
