I visited La Calderona last year and will return this spring. The complex is about five years old and construction/design is 5* across the board. The staff was friendly, professional and knowledgeable. Some of the major european soccer and formula 1 teams are repeat customers, which speaks fairly, in my view, to the quality of the complex.

Special mention of the restaurant is in order; the paella, a notoriously difficult rice to cook, was superb.

La Calderona is hidden in a small town near Valencia, Spain. Advantage is that the place is very quiet and close to some interesting old-world towns for tourism, especially during festival season. Because the Calderona is outside the capital and beaches (10-15 minutes if I recall correctly) I thought pricing was very competitive.

Disadvantage, if you want to visit Valencia city or the Mediterranean beaches you need to get there. You can either drive or have the Calderona coordinate your day trips.

FYI - Valencia has a terrific historic old city, art museums, music pavilions, shopping on Colon St. and the modern science museums and aquarium. Lots of incredible old-world towns, castles and churches nestled in the region as well.
