“NEVER, EVER AGAIN”

Once was more than enough will never go back.
Positives - great caravan, clean and in a quite spot away form the railway line.
Negatives - too many to mention, terrible site and Saltcoates is even worse, everything has closed down, cinema, go-karts, nothing at all to do.
Complained on return home but Park resorts do not want to know!!!!!
Much nicer park resorts site is Southview in fact I believe any site would be better.

“Plaesant Holiday”

Although apparently basic on first arrival, the staff were friendly and informative. The caravan was more than functional for a happy family of five and a dog seeking adventure in new places! The oven would probably have taken 3 weeks to crisp up a garlic bread but the hob and microwave were fine. The beds were clean and made up nicely. There was a bit of a doggy smell on arrival but we took a dog with us and would expect this. The walk to the beach over the bridge and sand dunes wasn't that pretty but the beach was good to allow the kids and dog to run around. We did not try out the swimming pool or entertainment because tha just isn't us! There are some very scathing reviews of this resort online, but if you arrive with an open mind and a desire to base yourself at the site and then travel around the area, you will not be disappointed. It made for a nice family holiday.

Room Tip: Take extra sleeping bags if staying in October half term!

“A good base”

I stayed with my husband, my sister and her partner.

We wanted a cheap and cheeful holiday in Scotland and had an excellent time.

The park itself is in a dreadful location but don't be put off by that. The beach was lovely it was just a shame that the park and beach are separated by a busy trainline.

There was loads to do nearby and Edinburgh was only 2 hours away.

The caravan was superb, great quality and spotless. The double glazing stopped the freight trains bring to noisy.

We used the onsite shop and chip shop, both very good. There is a pool but as we were out during the day we didn't use it. The small arcade was dissapointing but we later found out it was run by a separate company.

The staff were super helpful which was lovely.

If you want somewhere as a base this is perfect but if you're after a camp to stay on all the time this probably isn't for you.

“Great for a short break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2011

We have a 6 month old baby so we weren't looking for much for our short break - just somewhere to get away for a few days. Sandylands did the job. The park is small but clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. The caravan was spacious, very clean and well-equipped. Our TV wasn't working when we arrived and once we went to report it it was fixed very quickly. The only down-side was that because we stayed in October it was wet and windy and the caravan is only single glazed with the only fire/heat being in the living area so the bedrooms were VERY cold at night which we could cope with but wasn't so good for our daughter.
There is a train line running through the centre of the park which you can hear but it didn't bother us very much at all.
We were happy with the swimming pool and had some fun in the arcade. We didn't visit the bar or experience any of the entertainment because of our daughter but there seemed to be a good selection of entertainment on through the week.
The shop was well stocked and was reasonably priced.
There is not a restaurant on site, only a chip shop which we didn't eat from but also seemed reasonably priced and you can take your fish supper into the bar area to eat. We were offered take away menus for the local chinese and indian restaurants in Saltcoats when we arrived. We ordered an indian on the first night which was delivered to our caravan!
So overall, a good experience for us but I don't think we'll be holidaying in a caravan on the west coast of Scotand in October again!

Room Tip: If you are going in one of the colder months I would pay a little extra for one of the caravans that...
