“Nice Hotel Bad Service - a rotten apple can spoil the whole basket”

It was nice to stay on the other side of shimla - quite - lovely rooms. definitely for the price you pay. We did get a discount, the food here was really good.

From the heat of delhi - a great relief in cold woods of khufri.

The service is fairly decent, with the manager taking care of you.

Room Tip: The rooms on the valley side give a lovely view to ic caped mountains

“Decent place, but great potential...”

I travelled to Kufri with my wife in March 2010... We stayed at the Kufri Holiday Resort for 2 nights. We are from Chennai...

Way to Kufri:

If you are starting from Delhi, better start early. We started around 11 AM and reached Kufri at 10:30 PM... Though the roads were fairly comfortable, the duration of travel made us weary... We started the climb up to Shimla at around 5:30 PM; the scenary was good. However, if you have roamed in the forests of Kerala/Karnataka, this would be a bit different, 'cause the trees and leaves have a paler and brown look compared to the dark green appearances down south (probably has something to do with the time of the year we went).

Location:

Kufri Holiday Resort is situated about 25 kms from Shimla and much higher as well. This resort is the highest point where one could stay at Kufri. This gives an amazing view on all sides of the resort. The resort itself is in 2 stages, a main building which houses a few rooms and the restaurant and a row of cottages at a higher level. But beware if you are reaching a bit late, the walk up to the cottages in the night can be a bit tedious with the stiff chill breeze and slippery steps.

Location: 10 out of 5 here.

Rooms and ambience:

We stayed at the Honeymoon Cottage which had a living room, a bedroom and a kitchen (kind of). The living room opens up to the walk way to other cottages, but the view from here is breath-taking, with the Himalayan range forming a white necklace around the horizon.

The cottage was too cold and a bit thinly furnished. There was only a little portable heater available in the bedroom and no centralised heating, probably because it was off season. Hot water availability is an issue too. The water is freezing chill at all times. Bed was a bit hard, but passable, the quality of spreads however was a little disappointing.

Out first night here was one of the most eerie ones in my life. There was no sign of any humans around our cottage after the attendents left us at the cottage. And the huge glass windows in the bedroom without grille and the occasional thud of a snow flake on the tin roof added to our fear. The next morning however, we realised there were a few people around.

3 out of 5 here.

Food:

We had our food served to our rooms on both days. Food was good and the service was pretty quick. The sandwiches were a little too oily and burnt, but the other items were pretty good. Rates were reasonalbe though.

4 out of 5 here.

Service:

Nothing out of the world, pretty ordinary. The staff were courteous but the place looked to be terribly understaffed. We requested for hot water on the second day as the heater did not work. We had it delivered as we were checking out after having our bath in the freezing water. Considering we had paid pretty heavily we expected the service to be little better.

2 out of 5 here.

Activities within the resort:

We spent most of the day sightseeing and going further up in Kufri on a Pony, we did not have much time to spend in the resort. However, there are a lot of places to visit around Kufri, and should make it very exciting to stay here.

Rating: N/A

This trip was the start to our frequent outings. We were pretty naive and amatuerish. We were unaware of a few things to look out for when travelling. Kufri was a much better option to stay compared to the cramped spaces in Shimla.

Careful when you are riding a pony for the first time, it will walk through very narrow, slippery path, you need to maintain balance for it to maintain balance..! :) Ensure to take your camera chargers, you will keep clicking away, there are so many beautiful places around this area.

Ensure to visit Narkanda as well when you are in Shimla, we missed it.

“Nightmare !!!!”

I stayed in this hotel in April 2010. I booked it with MAP plan. On my booked date we were the only couple staying there & a group of another 20 people. The hotel staff had avoided us in numerous ways. Firstly we were given room 2 hrs late from the check in time. The room was stinky & untidy. When we requested to change the room, the staff started blaming the management & the room wasnt changed. In the evening when we asked for the dinner plan, to our surprise we were intimated that the meal will be served at 10 PM because it was prepared as per the suitability of the group staying there. We had no option but to place the dinner in our room only.
The hotel has small rooms, no service....
There is no point in staying there & spoiling your time....
If you want to stay nearby this location please visit Shilonbagh Resort for a life time experience....

I wanted to see snow and hence booked kufri holiday resort. The resort and its rooms where exactly as shown in the web site. But the rooms were very poorly heated. The service was very slow taking 1 to 2 hours for a responce. We checked in at noon and got our room keys in the evening . The room was very cold as the roof of the room was made of fiber and the ice on it would freeze the room (unlike a concrete construct).Hot water is available only for 3 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening accoding to the chart hung in the room (like many hotels). But we got hot water only for 15 mts after we checked out in the noon the next day. Every complaint is covered by seperate dept (water problem by plumbing dept, heating by electrical and hence forth) and each used to take hours for a guy to come and take a look. Most of the problems were never corrected. We had 30 odd japanese guests for company which took all the resources leaving us stranded in hell. Noodles was delivered with large chuncks and lumbs of aginomoto. The restaurant was more like a large fridge with one heating device at one table leaving the remaining 8 exposed to cold.I was wondering why my order was taking time when I saw a eiderly lady from the next table dashing into the kitchen .I later saw her standing depressed with others families already in the kitchen. In total I found the fabric of hotel management completely torn on that day. You feels like a small drop in a big ocean.
