Location, a service area on the A48 about 10 miles North of Llanelli. The A48 is the main road carrying traffic to and from West Wales. The hotel is a few miles after the end of the westbound M4 motorway. Access to the hotel is from a large roundabout with a petrol station and an Aldi supermarket. It is an excellent location for travelling to and from other places in the area, but there is almost no reason to stay here as a destination in itself.
A typical Travelodge, everything as expected, clean simple rooms with basic amenities. Very pleasant and helpful staff, better than the Travelodge normal. Car parking was free. In the rooms I particularly liked the flexible LED bedside lights which enabled me to read at night without disturbing the Mrs.
Eating and drinking. There is only the Little Chef right next door, so just basic functional food and a small selection of beer and wine, certainly not a "dining experience" but ok if you just want to eat. The Little Chef has free Wi-Fi but I didn't use it myself. There is a local fish & chip place very nearby which I have used on previous visits and also a McDonalds.
Our main reason for staying here was the price. Some budget hotel chains frequently advertise low prices, but very often these prices are almost impossible to find or have unrealistic conditions. Travelodge however really do sometimes have genuine good deals. This room cost just £12 booked and paid for a couple of weeks in advance. Value for money cannot be disputed. The purpose of this trip was a weekend in Wales visiting people just before Christmas. We used various Travelodges for all three nights away, all at these low prices.
Given the price paid, our stay was an absolute bargain and I have no complaints.
