Arrived at Marco Pollo Airport in Venice where the Hotel Staff arranged beforehand to have a local Taxi driver pick us up for 35 Euros, a saving over using a Taxi at the airport. The Park Hotel Villa Vicini is a lovely, small hotel in the countryside where we stayed for two evenings to overcome jet lag. The hotel itself is very clean and stylish. I've attached a number of photos I took while there to give a sense of the place and the tranquil setting it presents. If you are looking for a quiet, non-busy location in which to relax for a few days before taking off on your cruise from Venice, this is the place!
The staff was very pleasant and helpful in all respects. I would especially like to compliment the two staff members we had the most contact with, Giovanna Gradella and Alexander, both who helped us with dinner arrangements, bus routes and sights to see in the immediate area. They could not have been nicer to us!! I wish I could speak Italian like they speak English!
We ate our evening dinners at a neighborhood restaurant a few blocks walking distance behind the hotel, called "El Patio", which was recommended by Giovanna. The restaurant is as the name implies, a long covered patio along the entrance to the inside main restaurant, where one can eat too if you like. As the weather was mild, we ate under the patio section both nights, which proved to be delightful. The restaurant personnel speak very limited English, so you get a chance right away to try out your Italian. As an alternative restaurant, there is a less charming, but adequate eatery diagonally across from the Hotel that is larger, both indoors and outdoors, serving mainly pizzas and pastas with good beer on tap!
During our full day at the hotel we took an easy bus ride up to the town of Treviso which has a medevial section to it. We asked some "locals" for a typical restaurant where "they" would eat, and she gave us the name of "Toni de Spin" restaurant in the old section. Ate lunch there. Very charming and certainly a local hangout. If you do not act like a "hard to please tourist" and savor the experience of eating local dishes, you'll enjoy the place much more! To counteract any resistence you might feel, talk with the owner/ staff and tell them how charming is their restaurant!!
Although one can take the bus right outside the Hotel (much less cost) into Venice the day of your departure to board the ship, we opted to take a cab instead (40 Euros). The hotel can make the taxi arrangement for you, as well as explain the bus route to the ship if you decide on that mode of transportation.
The rooms have heavy curtains you can close to make it very dark so one can easily nap during the day. A Room toward the inside Park Setting of the hotel may prove to be less noisy and better for sleeping. The breakfast buffet/room is quite nice and a good way to start your day. The small, very stylish Hotel bar room can be utilized by your party to finish off the evening. The outdoor sitting area with Umbrellas can be used in the morning and evening too as a place for your group to gather.
