Just had a lovely week staying here in one of the studio apartments. The first thing to say is that the owner is incredibly friendly and helpful, from the instant we arrived and he welcomed me by name we felt like real guests. After letting you settle in he gives you some maps and information about the area and an opportunity to ask any questions you might have. This is something I’ve never experienced one to one before, and again makes you feel very welcome.
The apartments themselves are set in a lovely grounds which are overflowing with plants and flowers so you have more of the impression of being in a terraced garden rather than an apartment complex. The pool area which also has a small bar attached to it is clean and well kept and has a lovely fresh position looking out over the sea below. If I have one criticism about Andromaches it is that the studio we stayed in was a little run down. For example our shower curtain was old and had holes in it , and the fridge was in need of a good scrub or replacing. Having said that the rest of the room and the bathroom were perfectly clean which is much more important and we had a lovely balcony with a fantastic view out over the bay so what more could you want, (we were on the 1st floor). And for the money we were paying (41 euro a night) you have to be reasonable about what you get – which will always be basic. Couple of small notes you don’t get much bedding so if you’re the kind who gets cold at night (like my girlfriend) maybe bring a couple of extra t-shirts to wear. Our studio had optional air-con which is charged at 2 euro a day, although we didn’t need it because you get a nice fresh breeze coming off the sea. Not all apartments have it though so make sure you request one with it, if it’s important to you.
The next best thing about Andromaches is the location. First, it is 5 minutes walk down the hill to a lovely little beach. This has a small charming café at the back of it, which provides sun loungers, cold beer, and delicious Greek salads. The sea is warm and wonderful to swim in. Note it is shingle though not sand, but that shouldn’t put you off, it such a lovely restful spot. Second, 10-15 minutes walk down the road is Benitses Old Town. This is an attractive place with a real Greek feel to it and some lovely places to eat. I recommend Paxinos in particular! I don’t recommend the new town which is further along the coast and contains the kind ‘English’ orientated bars that I have no interest in. However you never have any need to venture into this unless you want so don’t let it worry you. If you want a quiet, relaxing, beautiful, cheap place to stay this is it!

Upon arriving late into the hair-raising Corfu airport (3am) we took a taxi to the apartments, we were tired when we arrived the place seem basic but clean my friend had no fan in her room but double doors onto a large patio. Upon waking we found a fan had been delivered and we had a gorgeous sea view.

The apartment was only 5 minutes walk from the pebble beach which was quiet and had beautiful blue seas (watch out for the sea urchins). Situated in the mountains near the lovely Benitses, the location was ideal, great for getting around in a car (watch out ,driving can be a bit of a knee trembling experiance) or you can take the blue bus for 1 euro into corfu town.

What really made our holiday was the welcome we recieved from the delightful owner Fedon. We looked forward to going to the pool and bar every day to sit and chat with Fedon and Teddy (who worked for Fedon) No problem was too big for Fedon he gave us a map and marked out the good places to go to, he told us of small villages with festivals, consequently we spent lovely evenings sitting eating sardines and drinking barrelled wine with the locals. Fedon even called the airport to change my car booking and have the car delivered to the apartments. Fedon advised us of good places to eat, sights to see and beaches to visit, every day was interesting and yet relaxing thanks to Fedon's helpful advice.

Corfu town is a must see, we spent some wonderful evenings in this beautiful old city, the bars were cosmopolitan and lively, the people welcoming. The 'Venetian Well' restaurant was a fairly expensive but absolutely delicious treat.

When leaving the apartments Fedon, Teddy the dog clefty and the kitten stood on the roadside to wave us off, Teddy even drew us all a picture, we really felt like we were leaving friends. I would advise anyone to visit this beautiful and friendly island (perhaps avoiding Kavos). And the Adromaches Apartments is a place I would thoroughly recommend to anyone wanting a friendly and totally authentic Corfiot experiance
