My boyfriend and I booked this apartment/villa complex because the first place we booked fell through at the last minute. Also, due to a minor car accident the day we arrived, we had no rental car with us. It was a stressful start to any holiday, but we were still looking forward to relaxing in the Portugese sun.
I want to start by saying that we had a lovely relaxing time in Portugal - days lounging by the pool in peace and quiet under the hot Portugal sun, reading books and eating at local restaurants. The majority of Portugese people were very nice, friendly and helpful. There was however one receptionist at Romantik Natur who was wholly unhelpful.
To cut a very long story short, she was very brusqe and unhelpful when we checked in. She never mentioned to us that breakfast was served each morning outside under the veranda (we only learnt about this on the last day after checking out!). She refused to book a taxi for us to get food shopping for the week saying "most people have a rental car" which meant we had to carry a week's worth of food and drink from the nearest village, Burgau, 20 minutes down the road back to our room.
And lastly when we asked her for more information about how to get to the waterpark "Slide and Splash" without a rental car, she never told us about the bus you can order which brings you there and back for €23 - entrance included! When we did learn about this great deal, it was too late to book!
As i said, I had a lovely time and the other two receptionists were very nice and friendly without being overbearing or obnoxious. Just really nice people. Her though, i could have done without!
Not having a car was a blessing in disguise. Everyone there seemed to have a car and they used them everyday. Which meant we had the pool to ourselves for the majority of the day - heaven! but i'd say if the rooms around us had been filled, I could imagine the pool area getting very crowded indeed. But then again, there are three swimming pools in total, beaches near by and tennis courts so i'm sure you could find privacy if you needed it.
Also, Lagos is really only a 10 minute drive away and is a really lovely town with a nice lively but relaxed atmosphere. Burgau is a nice little seaside village within walking distance. I'd recommend Casa Grande for pizza! And there were a couple of really nice restaurants there besides but i cannot remember the names unfortunately.
I'm not sure to whom I would recommend this complex too though. There were tennis courts, some board games and books at the complex, and swimming pools of course. There were a number of families there and overall i think Portugal is really child friendly. But all in all Romantik Natur seemed like a place for adults. Also, there are no real foot paths so walking places always seems a little dangerous (especially after dark) so without a car it can seem a little trapped. If we were there more than a week, i think I would have started to get very bored. But then, that's not the worst complaint one can have on holiday!
