The hotel is a fair trot from the airport and you will most likely be the second last drop-off. However, it isn't so far that it feels like coach tour. The initial impression of the hotel is favourable, although the road down from the main road is extremely steep. Walking back up from the hotel to the main road in hot weather is liable to result in a cardiac arrest, for all but the most ardent mountaineer.
The hotel is in an isolated location but there are waking paths to other resorts and beaches along the coast, and it is well worth making the effort if you enjoy a mildly taxing ramble. The beach close to the hotel is of pebbles, but is pleasant enough.
When we were at the hotel in early October, it was easy to book a seat on the free hotel coach that goes into Corfu town, but I would imagine that this could be different during the main summer months. The coach leaves at 9am and returns from the town at 1pm, which we found to be adequate.
The room we had was nice enough, although the fridge in the room struggled to keep things cold, and also tends to leak water. My wife thought the room was on a par with that found at your average Travelodge, and I think that is a fair assessment. It was cleaned everyday and I have no complaint about the cleaning. The bathroom was a bit tired but everything worked as it should.
I have no complaint about the food served at the hotel. It was plentiful, very edible and provided a good choice of hot and cold options. We were staying there on a half board basis so sorted out our own lunch. Our preference was to walk along the beach to Yianni's Taverna, a friendly place, with friendly service and excellent, reasonably priced food, plus a choice of beverages. The ouzo and lemon is especially good.
My one complaint in respect of the catering at the hotel is the high price of drinks bought with a meal. If you want to have mineral water in your room, it is best to buy it in Corfu town at a supermarket, you will get six 1.5 litre bottles for the price of one at the hotel.
The bad points? Well as mentioned wasps could be a real pain, sometimes quite literally. Smokers should be less bothered by them as they are seemingly not partial to the noxious fumes. The location is isolated but the free bus helps a lot. I would also not describe the resort as a relaxing and quiet place, as there are a significant amount of Eastern Europeans staying there, and they can be a little boisterous at times. Nothing too bothersome though, just different cultures meeting in the same spot.
The trips we booked through Thomson were fine, except for the day trip to Albania. There is just so much wasted time. If you get to Albania on the hydrofoil, you have to wait for others to arrive on the other slow boat, which resembles a refugee ship. Saranda, where you arrive in Albania, is also a very quiet place, which appears to close down at 3pm. But as Albania is so close to Corfu, it is worth the trip I think, despite the frustrations.
All in all, Nissaki Beach is a good hotel, even if describing it as 4 Star is pushing the boundaries of the term. I would go there again at some point in the future.
