“Something for everyone...”

I just can find the time to review this amazing hotel after 5 months that I have been there. This doesn't mean that it was not astonishing. I and my wife had an excellent 3 day break over there. First the location itself, the view from the hotel is breathtaking. Almost every balcony has the wonderful seaview, and besides that you can enjoy, and relax laying on the hummocks in the bar. The rooms are flat like apartments with a convenient built in kitchen with a hob, microwave oven and a refrigarator for the ones who would like cook themselves. I reccomend this hotel for both romantic couples like us, and also families with children while there are many activities for them also. The flats and the play grounds are quite apart from each other, therefore you don't hear any noise. It's located on a quite big area where everyone can enjoy themselves without any hassle. The only negative thing if you would call it really a disadvantage is that the hotel doesn't have a beach you have to either walk, drive or take a bus to reach the sea level. However, this is the only way that you can have this excellent sea view. I and my wife would definitely go there again.

Room Tip: Insist on an apartment that is on the second floor, this way you'll definitely have the best sea...

“Loryma resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

We have just spent 10 days here, lovely place, not too busy in Oct, our I bed apartment was lovely, spotlessly clean, staff friendly and helpful, I thought the food was superb, a long steep walk into Turunc, however there is a shuttle bus, free into town and back, also local buses, and taxi's cost 12 lire, I would definately go back, views are spectacular, We really enjoyed it here

“Amazing Views - but........”

Just returned from the Loryma Resort in Turunc. The setting on the hillside and views over Turunc are simply amazing.

We opted for a standard 2 bed apartment on a self caterng basis. It was disappointing. The beds were incredibly hard and uncomfortable and I ended up taking 2 paracetemol each evening latterly, to avoid back pain the next morning. The main living area and 1 of the bedrooms had no air conditioning. There was only 1 a/c unit in the whole apartment. On occassions the heat in the apartment was so uncomfortable. From the moment we arrived, our fridge did not work properly and despite it being reported, it was never fixed. Eventually we gave up trying to store any food and settled for warm bottled water, simply to have some liquid in the apartment to drink. We only ever ate at the Resort once as it was double the price of most of the Restaurants in Turunc. The Resort provides a shuttle service down to Turunc throughout the day, but the last one available is 6.15pm. Presumably this is to discourage guests from leaving the Resort at night to eat and drink elsewhere. Taxis are available up and down to Turunc and will cost approx. £4 each way. As the resort is set on a very steep hillside, it is not suitable for everyone. We met a lovely elderly couple but could not believe that they had been given an apartment right at the top of the Resort, it was a huge struggle for them every day and they were glad to leave. On the face of it the bar staff appear friendly, but as time went on it became obvious that they were only interested in those that were members of the Resort, returning guests or owners of some of the apartments. On occassions it felt like a private club where we were very much outsiders. On our last day we watched from the Poolside in disbelief, at the Pool Bar Waiter Mahir shout and thump one of his younger colleagues. It very much affected the atmosphere around the pool and the bar for the remainder of the day, for those that witnessed it. Watch out for your drinks from the bar upstairs at night. One of the members there and well known in the resort, was having the local booze put into his beer unknowingly as a joke. The man is retired, elderly and on large amounts of medication. How dangerous and stupid!!

We decided not to complain and make the most of a not particularly good choice. We came away to escape stress, instead of increase it. For what we paid to stay at Loryma, we could have had a private villa and pool. It was a disappointment and we will not be returning.

Room Tip: Superior Rooms and insist on a sea view.

“Best hotel we have stayed at in Turkey”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

My partner and I stayed at Loryma at end of August for 2 weeks. We arrived at 6am in the morning having elected to take private taxi transfer. The views en route are stunning, although the road is not for the faint hearted, and the taxi driver stopped at the highest point on the mountain so we could take photos of the sunrise. Having read most of the reviews already written we were not disappointed. The location of the hotel is so high up that the views are breathtaking. We had a superior 1 bed appartment on self-catering basis. At first we thought we had been allocated the wrong appartment. It was far superior to anywhere we have stayed on previous visits to Turkey and for not much more money than we usually pay. Appartment was well equipped and was cleaned every 2nd day with fresh sheets and towels. Air con in bedroom was comfortable and controllable. We even had a jacuzzi bath, although we only used it to wash the beach towels! There is also a laundry service provided. We were on the frist floor and the view from our balcony was good, we did have a sea view although was slightly obstructed by the building in front. Would probably have preferred to have been on the floor above.

The views in general are spectacular and the whole hotel is very well laid out and maintained. The food was fantastic, although we only had dinner there a few times as we preferred to go into town. There was plenty choice and mostly organic and healthy and excellent value for money. Don't know what the person who wrote the breakfast was nothing special is used to eating in the morning! The choice and quality was superb, in fact it was too much for us and as we were on room only basis we decided just to have our own lighter breakfast in the appartment. They also do special deals if you eat dinner there a few times a week. The only thing about the restaurant we found was that the acoustics were not very good as in there was quite a lot of clattering going on. However there are also plenty tables outside with stunning views. There are 2 pools - indoor and outdoor which are both very large. Both pools are lovely although in our first week there were too many children jumping in and splashing in the outdoors one (even though there was a notice up forbidding this). We like to go on holiday outwith school holidays but had not taken into account the German school holidays. There was also a children's pool but was more like a toddlers' pool as most of the kids were in the big one. However by our second week most of them had left and it was much more peaceful in general and easy to get a sunlounger. The guests were mostly German although we did meet more English people in the second week. If you like peace and quite would definitely recommend to check out all school holidays first. The pool bar was lovely and offered fresh bbq fish twice a week for lunch. The evening bar was stunning with hammocks and floor cushions, although again the German children seemed to monopolise those in our first week. The music and sound was very tasteful and relaxing. There was also a lovely breeze in the evening. The bar staff were all very nice, especially Frankie who was so lovely and made us feel special. The drinks prices were also very reasonable for a hotel and in fact probably slightly cheaper than in the town. All the staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend the hotel boat trip - the bbq was fantastic and great value for money - it was so good we went on it twice! The hotel offers many other activities, some more adventurous ones if you like that sort of thing - I settled for the aqua aerobics and would have liked to have partaken in the yoga but did not manage to get up in time!

The only negative was that I was very much looking forward to visiting the on-site Ayurveda centre which offers many treatments and was one of the reasons I chose this hotel, but unfortunately it was closed for the duration of our stay and perhaps that should have been made clear beforehand. However in hindsight a 3 day detox is probably best not done on holiday!

The small town of Turunc is also lovely - they say its quiet but still has more than enough bars and restaurants to visit for 2 weeks. Our favourite was the quiet little Turkish cafe called Paradise - real Turkish food which the owner and his wife made in front of us, including the bread and very cheap if you are on a budget. We also ate in the more up market Pisces restaurant once, where the food was ok but nothing special and over priced and we felt we were paying for the terrace and sea views more than the food. All the other restaurants we ate in were very nice though and not expensive. Our favourite bar was Bambu where they had live music (but not the loud kind) and we were there most nights. Yavos was kind enough to let my boyfriend play guitar with him. However everything shuts by 2am and there are no night clubs so it is not the place to go if you like nightlife.

The beach is not spectacular and again a bit crowded, as many Turks were on holiday there too, but the water is lovely for swimming and if you walk a bit further you can find quieter parts. But if its stunning beaches you're looking for, best visit the Caribbean! There are however other lovely small quiet bays which are easily accessible by boat taxi. And the water everywhere is indeed crystal clear.

This is our third visit to Turkey, it is a beautiful country - we previously went to Side and Fethiye but Turunc is easily our favourite.

The only downside to this hotel is the location if you like to go into town in the evening. There is no transport, apart from taxi, and It is very steep to walk although we did walk a couple of times - there is no way you could walk back however, especially after a few! Taxis were not expensive but did mount up for us as we preferred to go into town in the evening. This would be the only reason we would not return to this particular hotel.

We definitely plan to return to Turunc next year but will look at staying somewhere closer to town, albeit perhaps not as luxurious as the Loryma!

.

Room Tip: Higher floors and appartments at the front have unobstructed views.

““Beware - not as good as would appear.””
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 September 2011

Holiday camp on a mountain with Holiday camp food. Rooms can be good or bad - pay your money - take your chance. Our room was not as we expected but hotel web site now covers what I complained about so potential guests should be able to make an informed choice.

The room we stayed in was clean, functional and well maintained but did not match the layout for Superior Room A published on the Loryma web site.

We were offered an alternative but it was a lot higher up in the grounds in an area where the access was more suited to mountain goats. The sea view was also obscured by trees so we decided to stay put as it was becoming a distraction to our holiday.

The Dining Hall is the main, clean and airy. The public areas, such as swimming pool and bar areas are well maintained and the views are stunning. The Pool bar offers a decent lunch menu at reasonable prices. The staff in the complex are very attentive, warm and friendly.

We did read the good reviews about the hotel food, which persuaded us to book half board. We did not share those opinions, so chose to take a taxi to the resort most evenings where there was a very good choice of restaurants where we enjoyed good quality Turkish food and great service. Turunc is a beautiful resort and the local people very warm and friendly.

The many good reviews on TripAdvisor suggest that the Loryma is ideal for many families, just not for us.
