My partner and I stayed at Loryma at end of August for 2 weeks. We arrived at 6am in the morning having elected to take private taxi transfer. The views en route are stunning, although the road is not for the faint hearted, and the taxi driver stopped at the highest point on the mountain so we could take photos of the sunrise. Having read most of the reviews already written we were not disappointed. The location of the hotel is so high up that the views are breathtaking. We had a superior 1 bed appartment on self-catering basis. At first we thought we had been allocated the wrong appartment. It was far superior to anywhere we have stayed on previous visits to Turkey and for not much more money than we usually pay. Appartment was well equipped and was cleaned every 2nd day with fresh sheets and towels. Air con in bedroom was comfortable and controllable. We even had a jacuzzi bath, although we only used it to wash the beach towels! There is also a laundry service provided. We were on the frist floor and the view from our balcony was good, we did have a sea view although was slightly obstructed by the building in front. Would probably have preferred to have been on the floor above.
The views in general are spectacular and the whole hotel is very well laid out and maintained. The food was fantastic, although we only had dinner there a few times as we preferred to go into town. There was plenty choice and mostly organic and healthy and excellent value for money. Don't know what the person who wrote the breakfast was nothing special is used to eating in the morning! The choice and quality was superb, in fact it was too much for us and as we were on room only basis we decided just to have our own lighter breakfast in the appartment. They also do special deals if you eat dinner there a few times a week. The only thing about the restaurant we found was that the acoustics were not very good as in there was quite a lot of clattering going on. However there are also plenty tables outside with stunning views. There are 2 pools - indoor and outdoor which are both very large. Both pools are lovely although in our first week there were too many children jumping in and splashing in the outdoors one (even though there was a notice up forbidding this). We like to go on holiday outwith school holidays but had not taken into account the German school holidays. There was also a children's pool but was more like a toddlers' pool as most of the kids were in the big one. However by our second week most of them had left and it was much more peaceful in general and easy to get a sunlounger. The guests were mostly German although we did meet more English people in the second week. If you like peace and quite would definitely recommend to check out all school holidays first. The pool bar was lovely and offered fresh bbq fish twice a week for lunch. The evening bar was stunning with hammocks and floor cushions, although again the German children seemed to monopolise those in our first week. The music and sound was very tasteful and relaxing. There was also a lovely breeze in the evening. The bar staff were all very nice, especially Frankie who was so lovely and made us feel special. The drinks prices were also very reasonable for a hotel and in fact probably slightly cheaper than in the town. All the staff were friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Would recommend the hotel boat trip - the bbq was fantastic and great value for money - it was so good we went on it twice! The hotel offers many other activities, some more adventurous ones if you like that sort of thing - I settled for the aqua aerobics and would have liked to have partaken in the yoga but did not manage to get up in time!
The only negative was that I was very much looking forward to visiting the on-site Ayurveda centre which offers many treatments and was one of the reasons I chose this hotel, but unfortunately it was closed for the duration of our stay and perhaps that should have been made clear beforehand. However in hindsight a 3 day detox is probably best not done on holiday!
The small town of Turunc is also lovely - they say its quiet but still has more than enough bars and restaurants to visit for 2 weeks. Our favourite was the quiet little Turkish cafe called Paradise - real Turkish food which the owner and his wife made in front of us, including the bread and very cheap if you are on a budget. We also ate in the more up market Pisces restaurant once, where the food was ok but nothing special and over priced and we felt we were paying for the terrace and sea views more than the food. All the other restaurants we ate in were very nice though and not expensive. Our favourite bar was Bambu where they had live music (but not the loud kind) and we were there most nights. Yavos was kind enough to let my boyfriend play guitar with him. However everything shuts by 2am and there are no night clubs so it is not the place to go if you like nightlife.
The beach is not spectacular and again a bit crowded, as many Turks were on holiday there too, but the water is lovely for swimming and if you walk a bit further you can find quieter parts. But if its stunning beaches you're looking for, best visit the Caribbean! There are however other lovely small quiet bays which are easily accessible by boat taxi. And the water everywhere is indeed crystal clear.
This is our third visit to Turkey, it is a beautiful country - we previously went to Side and Fethiye but Turunc is easily our favourite.
The only downside to this hotel is the location if you like to go into town in the evening. There is no transport, apart from taxi, and It is very steep to walk although we did walk a couple of times - there is no way you could walk back however, especially after a few! Taxis were not expensive but did mount up for us as we preferred to go into town in the evening. This would be the only reason we would not return to this particular hotel.
We definitely plan to return to Turunc next year but will look at staying somewhere closer to town, albeit perhaps not as luxurious as the Loryma!
