“Aldwark Manor, poor spa, adequate hotel, ok food.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Stayed at Aldwark Manor, Sat 11th Feb on their Valentine offer (Dinner, B&B, £10 Spa voucher, plus Champagne & Chocs).

In the end I would rate out stay as just about OK. It was very nearly a none event, due to not being able to get through to the Spa Reception prior to arrival to book a Spa treatment. When I eventually spoke to someone on the day before our visit, all available treatment slot were fully booked. Which was a disappointment, when you've booked a spa weekend!

I also discovered at the time that I should have also pre-booked a meal time for the evening meal (which wasn't communicated at the time of booking). This resulted in us being allocated a 9pm slot for the evening meal.

I tried to cancel our booking on the Friday (due to no Spa and late meal time). However I was informed that any "offers" are non-cancellable, so we went ahead with the trip.

Fortunately, (and whether some calls were made from the booking team to the spa team... not sure, but I suspect so!) we had a call from the Spa manager Friday pm advising of a cancelled slot on Sunday, so I did manage to book the Full Holistic Treatment for my wife.

From this point on, I can say that ALL staff we dealt with were extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful.

I used the Gym while my wife had her Spa treatment. The treament was reported to be very relaxing and worthwhile. The gym equipment (running tracks) were dated and not well maintained. The pool was a decent size, but the steam room was dissapointing and the jacuzzi out of order.

Hotel room was OK (but didn't feel like 4*). Our view was of the hotel wall opposite.

Meal was good, although you're going to struggle to keep within the £26 per person allowance!

Overall I'd say it was OK, a near dissaster averted thanks to helpfull staff.

Advice would be to make sure you book early for any treatments and restaurant times.

Room Tip: Ask for one that at least has a view!

Thank you for taking the time to write your constructive review of Aldwark Manor Golf and Spa Hotel. I have taken all the points that led to your frustration at the booking stage on board and will feed them back to the team. It was great to read that you enjoyed your stay and that you thought the team were great.

Kind regards,

Steven Hodgkinson

“Very Relaxing!”

Myself ad my husband stayed at Aldwark Manor as part of a special spa 1 night deal for £99 per person. Having stayed there last year with friends, I thought it a good idea to go with the hubby. Although we had a lovely stay and an excellent treatment, I have to say that I found it not as good as the previous year. As part of the deal we had a 3 course dinner to the value of £26, 2 course lunch, breakfast and a 25min treatment. The food was definately not as good as the previous year. The menu the previous year gave an extensive choice for the value of £26, where this year we struggled to find what we wanted for the same value. Also my mash was heated up! Not what you expect from a 4 star hotel! Apart from that we had a a fabulous stay. The staff were very good; nothing was too much trouble and it was very good value. We were able to use the facilities from 10am even though check-in wasn't until much later. We were also able to use them all the following day. Well worth a visit for the deal!!!

“Exceptional all round!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Booked a weekend break in February 2012 and I must say we enjoyed every minute. On arrival we received an upgrade to a Dale suite due to an over booking, (fantastic room with sky, a huge bed, and the complimentary drinks are a nice extra). The staff at Aldwark were brilliant and extremely attentive throughout, food was first class and a lovely bottle of wine was reasonably priced.if you want a relaxing break with a real country feel then you can't go wrong.

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade to a suite, it might cost a little extra but it made our stay.

“excellent treatment”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

Went with friends for a spa day at this hotel during the week. Since I last went here they have added a very nice 'relaxation room' upstairs and it was good to escape here at times during the day. Much nicer than just sitting around in the downstairs communal area.
Best bit of the day was a superb massage from therapist Caroline who made me feel completely comfortable and relaxed. I would certainly recommend her to other guests. Lots of experience and a very nice person.

“Fantastic stay”

Been here twice now and have loved it both times. The place is immaculate and staff are brilliant. Local pub 5 mins away is nice as drinks are quite pricey in hotel. The setting is gorgeous and only 10 mins drive from York park and ride. The spa is also lovely and a relaxing setting so nice to treat yourself. I always get good deals for this on Q Hotels site to include evening meal as the food in the restaurant is beautiful. Would definitely go again and again.
