Dun Na Mara is situated between Oban, only 15 minutes to the south and Fort William and Ben Nevis convenient to the north. From all locations, the drive to the house is spectacular. We had a rear view room. Nicely decorated in cool colours. Bathroom was good and a decent shower was bliss after so many places with efforts that barely drip. The hosts both greeted us at the door and you immediately felt 'welcome'. The peacefulness and serenity of their inn's location is a big plus. With no dinner option available, there are a number of establishments close by with varying prices. We went to the Oyster Bar (Glue pot). Food was very good and reasonably priced. Service and character of the pub also good. Breakfast at Dun Na Mara was relaxed, enjoyable, and had a good choice of options. Service was spot on and any additional requests quicky responded to. There are a number of things to do in the area. Arduaine Garden, a NTS property, is well worth a visit. As is a trip to Seil Island. Boats leave from there for scenic/wildlife tours (We did the Seafari - not a great deal of wildlife but great fun nevertheless. Choose your season if wildlife is the key item and wrap up!!). There is a pub covering food and drink and a gift shop.
We both very much enjoyed our stay at Dun Na Mara. Only slight disappointment was that the 'cool' effect was carried into the communal lounge. Again, nicely done, but a warmer effect along with a nice fire would have been a delightful way to end a day, perhaps in conversation with other guests.
