We are just back from a wonderful week in Ponta dos Ganchos with my wife and two friends. We arrived in the rain and were initially a little disappointed by the standard of the bungalow for the price we were paying. However, within 24 hours we were charmed by the beauty for the Resort and the wonderful food and service.

The standard of food was amazing, with oodles of fresh healthy food with local ingredients and lots of fresh fish. There is no set time for any of our meals, leaving us entirely free to follow our daily whims. The barbecue days with Brazilian music were outstanding and not to be missed! The staff were all most helpful and kind, at times a little challenged by the English language, although there was always someone on hand to assist in the translation. A very special thanks to both July and Leonardo, who smiles and friendliness made our stay extra special. It was also great to see so many young local staff from the area being employed and trained by the hotel.

The Resort is located in a remote location, the scenery is breathtaking, with the Emerald Coast meeting the rainforest. The local villages give a slice of the old-fashioned Brazil of colonial times, with lots of different brightly coloured houses, where the most important elements of life are traditional activities such as fishing, oyster and mussel farming.

For our last three nights we stayed in the Emerald Vila, which was out of this world. It was certainly one of the nicest rooms I have ever stayed in, with bed, sauna, jacuzzi and small pool all overlooking the ocean. The housekeeping was impeccable throughout our stay. Our only gripe would be the overheated swimming pool water, it’s cooler water one needs in such a warm climate.

Overall a great experience!

This property is about 3 star European standard, we are staying in bunglow 2 with friends and to say the least the property had nothing to offer, (a sauna that cut the electricity as soon as it was turned on , a noisey air conditioning unit that leaked in the middle of the night , a dirty balcony with no view, a concierge service that did not speak english so could never understand what we were asking for, an exploited staff with an average age of 16, need i say any more.

At the prices they charge you would expect something the standard of the Banyan Tree, Phuket, or maybe any Four Seasons in the world ( including the George V which is about half the price ) but alas you end up with the equivalent of any ibis hotel in europe.

We stayed at Ponta dos Ganchos for 4 nights in January. It blew us away!!!! We were looking forward to it, but we weren't prepared for just how fantastic this place is. We booked a Super Luxo Bungalow. On arrival, one of the hotel staff told us that a Villa had become available and asked whether we would like to see it. We looked at both rooms. The super luxo bungalow was a gorgeous room, spacious, well equipped, and very recently renovated. However, the villa was so beautiful and huge we decided to take it. One thing that is great about this hotel is that they have really thought of everything to make great rooms. We realized that even if it were raining, we would be happy to just spend time in the room!

As to the resort, it is a gorgeous property about 50 mins drive from Florianopolis airport. It has a beautiful private beach, a restaurant for breakfast and a different restaurant for lunch and dinner. All food is included, and the food is what sets this hotel apart from other luxury resort hotels like Aman etc! The food is the best we had in Brazil - world class!!! Each menu changes daily so you can never get bored. We really enjoyed eating as many oysters as we wanted, whenever we wanted!!

Finally it is necessary to mention the service. The service was second to none! The staff generally spoke excellent English and were so happy to help.

This place is expensive, but worth every cent! We can't wait to return!
