“It was really magical, relaxing and peaceful.”

It's a family run hotel. Really lovely, peaceful environment. We saw the pictures of this area which were taken 30 year ago. It looked really barren and dry. It's amazing that they turned this place into a heaven. When we first arrived we were expecting only a small bungalow. But in fact it's pretty big, you can stay there with your family. On the ground floor there is living room, kitchen, bathroom and patio. On the first floor there is a bedroom with a balcony looking over to the green. We could also see the sea from our balcony. Watching the sunset in our balcony was truly amazing. The whole resort is fully of trees, flowers. The staff was very friendly. We really felt at home. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful resort to stay in, this is a perfect place. Do not expect anything luxurious though.

“Great place to relax”

We really enjoyed our stay at the Riviera Bungalows. Had a studio about 15 metres from the beach (no. 35) and found it excellent value for money. Did not regret NOT paying extra money for superior rooms, as most of these appear to be further from the sandy beach.
Pick-up service from Larnaca airport worked without any problem, however going back the taxi driver informed us that he had to pick someone up. That turned out to be a group of Dutch tourists who had been on a day excursion to Larnaca and then on their way back to Kyrenia. Delayed our trip to the airport by 15 minutes and the taxi firm probably got some extra money out of it (two bookings paid, only one journey to make). Not the hotel's fault though.
Studio was well-equipped with plenty of lights, bench/table on the patio. We pushed the single beds together and almost had a comfortable double. Extra quilts were provided for cooler nights, very considerate. Owners apologized upon arrival that not everything might be ready yet (start of season), however we did not find anything missing and it was amusing to watch beach umbrellas being repaired with palm leaves during the week and being set up one by one.
Breakfast very nice with fresh homemade lemonade and choice of bread, different kinds of marmelade and feta cheeese. Great!
We had dinner 4 nights out of 9 and enjoyed all of them, particularly the soups. Excellent value for money at about £12 per person for 4-course set meal. Barbecued fish highly recommended. On our last night they even let us have dinner early, so we could have a meal before going back to Larnaca.
Free (!) WLAN available in the restaurant area, definitely a plus.
Delightful pool - we just kept wondering why hardly anybody seemed to use it.
Nearby supermarkets Lemar and Tempo provide a reasonable choice of food, including fresh veg and wine, so you can even do your own basic dinner in your appartment/studio.
If you are looking for a quiet place that has not been caught up yet by the building boom in Northern Cyrprus, this is where you want to go!
If you are planning on sight-seeing: new road towards northwest has been built and not all signs are up yet. If you are heading for Kantare castle, you can use the new coastal road, but make sure you find the road into Kaplica which then lead straight into the hills.
If you are looking for a good beer: try "Gusta" wheat beer, either from the supermarket or at a bar in Kyrenia. Turkey's frist wheat beer!

Room Tip: studio 35 great, 15metres to sandy beach

“Cyprus---As It was meant to be”

The Onuray family have created an hotel and atmosphere totally different from that of your normal and conventional tourist venue
The Riviera is set in a huge garden, leading down to the sea, with its stone house and bungalows dotted around the property and the swimming pool.
This not an hotel to visit if you are looking for a ''buzz''
It is a place for relaxation, contemplation, talk and humour----easy going would be an understatement!.
If you are individual by nature and high in spirit,i would highly recommend the Riviera

“Lovely, peaceful, simple place.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2010

Just got back from a week at the Riviera Beach and had a very relaxing and pleasant stay. It's beautifully landscaped, so feels smaller than it is and there's a pretty little beach (hard to get into the sea because of rocks, but you can swim from the jetty next to it) and there's a nice pool if you prefer.
The family who run it are very welcoming and helpful, and the inclusive breakfast is delicious and simple (yoghurt, eggs, jams, honey, bread etc.) served on a very pretty terrace.
There are a couple of things to be aware of though. Firstly I think how much you enjoy your stay will be very influenced by which room you choose. Some of the rooms are not in great positions. We stayed in a beachside room in the front block, so had a lovely view from our balcony. In fact the room above us had the best view on the resort, as their balcony was not 'latticed' for security. But some of the other rooms didn't have much of a view at all, and felt a little claustraphobic. Particularly the bungalows furthest from the beach, which pretty much had views of the main building's walls.
And the food apart from breakfast was pretty ordinary and quite expensive for what it was. But that was pretty much the case for the area.
We went to 'The Veranda' a restaurant just around the corner set in a lovely position right on the sea. It was full of grumbling, pink, overweight Mancunians and we paid a lot of money for some pretty basic school dinner-like food, that tasted like it had come from a packet. 2 dissapointing courses and wine for about £60.
Kyrenia itself is surprisingly small. The marina is pretty, but you get really hassled by touts from all the restaurants leaping out at you and trying to drag you in. Once again the food was relatively expensive and very poor quality.
But overall if you want a quiet, simple, relaxing week, and don't mind it being 95% German (which we didn't) I'd recommend the Riviera Beach, particularly having seen some of the other hotels we were considering beforehand, 'in the flesh.'
