When we said we were planning on a two night stay our hostess showed us a one-bedroom in the upstairs in the back of the motel. It was a fine choice. The large windows had a beautiful view overlooking a kiwi vineyard to the western mountains. Being away from the road it was very quiet.
The unit was very large. It had a separate bedroom with queen bed in addition to the living room area which also had a queen bed, large couch and large flat-screen TV. The adjoining kitchen area was a full kitchen with four burner flat-top stove with oven, a separate microwave oven, refrigerator and a few other electric cooking appliances. Everything was spotlessly clean. There were lots of dishes in the cupboards. The lighting in the unit was a bit dim.
The queen-sized bed was comfortable enough. All the linens were clean and fresh. The bathroom had a shower but no tub. The shower door did allow water to splash out over the bathroom floor when it was being used. The bathroom fixtures were in good shape and clean.
Wireless internet was available for a small fee.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The woman who checked us in showed us the room before we signed in. The manager set up a trip for us on one of the water taxi services into nearby Abel Tasman National Park, including the cost on the hotel bill. The motel is within walking distance to compact downtown Motueka and we enjoyed a couple of good restaurants in town.
The Avalon Manor would be a fine base from which to enjoy this area of New Zealand.
