“Small Moldy Soul-less Concrete Cubicles in a beautiful building.”

If you are Mold or Fungus sensitive - avoid this place. I don't think it is so much from the building but from the A/C. I felt awful the next day - we left early and forfeited our money.

The A/C system works with the key card (WHY?) and ours did not work well - no matter how high we adjusted it it was freezing (we had it on 84 F and the room was 68)

These kind of houses (by second cousin lived in one) had generous rooms - The Parador Guanica has been remodeled (poorly) so the rooms are smaller - think motel. Bare walls, no attempt to make it "authentic" other than the Cast Iron Headboards (As uncomfortable as it sounds), just a box with painted walls and cheap art.

Rooms 111, 214 & 219 (sorry I did not note all the rooms like this) have tiny windows - Ours was locked - no way to open it. Privacy glass top to bottom was a bit much and added to the claustrophobic feel that the room had.

Service was fair, food was fair, coffee was fair for US standards (poor for PR standards)

The towels were small and rough, and too few (but we asked for more and they brought them)

The hotel is part of a vocational school, for the hotel industry .

The bay is not the prettiest, but we did see a Manta Ray (or small skate?) off the piers.

Overall it was lackluster and disappointing, I am not sure why it gets such good reviews. There are better places to stay -Mary Lee's by the Sea, or in La Parguera (which also has a Parador), and it certainly was not good value.

Fitness Center: One Treadmill, one bike and a mutli-machine that is so loose it is dangerous. The pool was nice.

Vending machines with the usual fare.

If you want to get away from it all, are impervious to mold and mildew, could care less about interior ambiance and don't mind spending money, then this place might just work for you.

“Very enjoyable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2010

There were many enjoyable things about our stay. The rooms were nicely kept, though the window was very small and didn't afford a great view of anything. Walking to the dock affords much better views of the beautiful bay. The beds were very comfortable, and a fridge was provided in the room. I was also able to connect to the wireless internet, though it may not be available in all rooms. The breakfast was included with the rate that we purchased (it may not be for everybody), and it was worth it. They provide a considerable amount of food, and many different choices, including drinks. It was very pleasant to be able to sit outside on the patio area. The swimming pool area was also beautiful, and it was nice to enjoy the sunset.

“Nice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2010

This hotel is very well kept the 4ft pool is nice and family friendly. The room are a little small but have good airconditioners to keep the room cool. There is a refrigerator, coffee maker & microwave for food in the rooms which is very nice. anything that you may need to get to in the area is a little drive away. The beach and bar spots are about a 10-20 minute drive away. There are some fast food places like Burger King & Mc Donalds that are closer but I dont go to PR top eat that junk I can do that at home. To sum things up if you don't know how to get around & you are not familar with the area it is going to be a challenge finding good spots to go to if you want to really enjoy yourself. I had the guide of someone that used to live in the area so things were easy to find. If you are looking for a place to stay were you can go party this is not the place to stay. If you are with family or have kids this is place is OK they have a little play ground as well as a small game room & small gym room. If you go be careful driving some of the locals drive kinda wild.

“Do not go there”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2009

We arrived in the evening; the staff at the front desk was o.k. Room was in the second floor of an old, but pretty building. Upon opening the door, the room smelled moldy like it hadn't been opened in a few days. The a/c termostat had to be operated with the door key, even then, it was not working properly as the temperature did not go bellow 74F. The bathroom was clean, but the toilet would not flush. Front desk was called and replied that the maintenance crew was not working until 10:00 P.M. Needless to say, they didn't make it to the room until the next morning. They looked at it and called it "fixed", it never worked. To eat, you have to fill a paper saying the dish you will have for lunch or dinner a few hours before; if you don't, they won't have a meal for you. The "gym" is a really small room with a 2-person sauna, a treadmill, and a machine that if you know a little bit about fitness, just by looking at it you'll know it's useless. Other than the pool, there is absolutely nothing to do or see close to the hotel. By the way, watch out for the mosquitoes.

“Good value option”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2009

Hotel Parador Guanica 1929 is one of the quasi-governmentally operated paradors in western and southern Puerto Rico. I chose this place because it's in a good location for exploring southwestern Puerto Rico and the price was reasonable for this very expensive island. I stayed for four nights in January 2009 on combined business and leisure. My first floor, corner room had a full size bed, a desk, free standing closet, TV, air conditioning, and a bath with shower. The two windows in the room were frosted and unable to be opened. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable and everything worked fine. I ate dinner one night at the restaurant on site and my meal was good though not great. Overall service was very good and staff were friendly and bilingual.

  • Liked — The location and the relatively low rate
  • Disliked — the frosted windows
