“Sad To See A Good Hotel Poorly Run”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

We have just returned from a two day stay at the Swiss Hotel in Moraira. The location would make it a boutique hotel, tucked away at the back of Moraira, with splended views, a good pool and an excellent chef. However, trying to run an hotel with a skeleton staff means that the service is poor, the staff rushed, and the overall impression is somewhat down market.
The prices are such that one would assume it to be a luxury retreat, however, the air conditioning was either swiched off or ineffective, staff were difficult to find, room service non existant (rooms were serviced only once a day, beds not turned down, etc.) lighting in the splended gardens switched on so late that everyone had already left, and so on. When we first arrived we were shown a room at the back of the hotel, overlooking the garden waste and the chickens next door-until we complained and were moved to a front room. Not a good first impression.
The breakfast buffet is run on a shoe string and there is no waiter service what so ever. The dinner food is excellent, as the chef knows what he is doing, however, the tables are poorly laid. the lighting indifferent and the overall ambiance is such that the majority of the hotel guests dine elsewhere, with due cause and reason.
Overall we were pleased that we were only there for two days!

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room overlooking the rear gardens

“Disappointing”

I was driving with my 2 kids (14+2 y.o) from Marbella to Barcelona. I picked what looked one of the best places to stay on our route for 2 nights. It looked really good but.. your breakfasts plates and cups were actually not clean. They offer American coffee only to be included which I don't consider to be coffee. We are in Spain where people drinking cafe solo and know good taste in coffee. Orange juice (again in SPAIN, few km from Valencia where they grow oranges) was not fresh but from the box... I had cafe solo, capuccino and 2 fresh juices which cost me an extra 14 euros. I have been traveling and basically living in Spain for 11 years, even in rural hotels they serve fresh juice and "normal" coffee, not American "something".
The night we arrived I had a bottle of nice white wine which I didn't finish and take with me to the room. Next morning it was gone after they cleaned the room. I especially put it aside and it was almost half a bottle. When I called and complained they didn't even offer a glass of wine as a compliment. For 4 star "deluxe" it is very disappointing.

On the first night there was a lot of noise- I didn't sleep well at all.

“No 4 star experience”

On the plus side; the pool area is wonderful, the location is quiet and the rooms are spacious. However, the service is very slow and not very friendly. Breakfast is disappointing, no freshly made cappuccino available (even in Spain this is absurd), and you have to come early to have a reasonable selection of choices. But the worst part is the air-conditioning; it is completely inadequate. You have to leave it on maximum the whole day to be able to sleep. Maybe ok for spring or autumn but avoid this hotel in summer if possible.

“Have a spare hour or two”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2011

This hotel is lovely in all ways, its peaceful, its pretty, the staff are all very friendly and it is all generally very personal. My only fault would be waiting an hour for a drink and two for a sandwich even after reminding them I was still here, there is also a serious lack in seasoning of food.
The rooms were lovely although dont hang anything on your balcony in sight of the pool as you will find that you will receive a phone call telling you off. There is also no lift in this hotel so would probably not be suitable for the less able.
The hotel is very remote so we hired a car through doyouspain.com and was a little worried about the reviews about the company we were allocated, I must say though Goldcar were amazing and good value for money too and will no doubt use them again should I need to, the hotel had plenty of shaded free parking too which was an added benefit. The town is about a 5 mins drive at the bottom of the hill well worth the visit, we walked back after a few drinks out and it took us about 40 mins but is all up hill and luckily signposted too.
All in all its a lovely place that should be visited, its not the cheapest hotel in the area costing just shy of £350 for 2 nights but I have no doubt its probably the nicest.

Room Tip: Some rooms have jacuzzis on their terraces
