The Cott Inn boasts that it's been licensed since the year 1320. Apparently it was an unlicensed shebeen for a while before that. A couple of years ago I tried to take two friends to the Cott for lunch. The kitchen was closed and the whole place looking a bit the worse for wear. Very disappointing. So I was delighted to find, when visiting Devon again last week, that new owners Mark and John have done such a brilliant job renovating this fascinating old building. They and their cheery staff have also restored The Cott Inn to the very high standards that made it a favourite of mine long ago. The welcome and service are genuinely friendly and unforced; food excellent and not too pricey; the wine list is small but perfectly formed; the bedrooms are perfect; and they've managed to install all modern conveniences without wrecking the place. This is quite an achievement. First class! Congratulations! I'll be back.

Six of us stayed here for new year, it was superb we had 3 of the recently refurbed rooms they were stunning, mark the owner has done a fantastic job. The new years eve meal and live music was outstanding, and on new years day mark went out of his way to lay on a lovely buffet lunch for the 6 of us in the evening. Top establishment and top notch food. We will be back for more

We stumbled on this place whilst trying to find somewhere still serving Sunday Lunch, We found the service relaxed but really attentive, great atmosphere and it was one of the best Sunday Lunches ive had in a long time. Would definately recommend it to my friends and will be back.

While staying at Dartington Hall for a couple of nights we went here for a meal and have to say it's a beautiful building with masses of character. Great atmosphere, great food and we would definitely recommend the place. Mark the owner was so attentive, treating us like long lost friends and making everyone who passes over the threshold feel special.
The accommodation (8 rooms I believe) was being refurbishment at the time of our visit at an astonomical cost and we can't wait until it opens so we can see the finished results. If it's anything like the food then it'll be well worth a stay!
All in all a great evening out and will definitely be visiting again.
