We booked the two-bedroom Saumur suite for three nights. The accommodations in this top-floor (3rd) suite were quite nice. The bathroom setup is convenient with a powder room (toilet and sink) adjacent to the two bedrooms and another room with a very large bathtub and sink just a few steps in another direction. The spiral staircase is wooden and in fine condition.
The Marty's are a very charming couple. Mr. Marty restores antique clocks and furniture, and he happily showed us around his studio in one of the outbuildings. Mrs. Marty is very gracious and kindly offered advice on local points of interest that we might otherwise have missed. The domaine is perched on a small hilltop and has a great view of the countryside, plus they have two horses. This area of France is serious about its horses and training farms.
This is out in the countryside. Note the picture taken from the Saumur bathroom window on their website. We arrived at night and took a wrong turn on the way, so I nearly despaired of finding them, but in daylight, and omitting the wrong turns, it was easy enough.
We used this rural home as a base for visiting much of Normandy and did not mind at all driving through the gorgeous countryside.
If the weather had been hot, the mosquitoes could have been a problem, but as it was cool and nice, and we did not need to have windows open, we just were careful about leaving our doors open.
