We have recently returned from a trip to South Africa, and while there we visited Clarens, and stayed at Brookeside House. I have to say I completely disagree with the previous review. Maryna is a remarkable host, our room was immaculate, with lots of little touches, like a bottle of sherry, and the home-made 'rusks'. My wife and I stayed the weekend, and enjoyed a gorgeous health breakfast on the veranda while enjoying the most spectacular views of the Maluti mountain range.

Clarens is truly beautiful, with a charmingly quaint village, far away from the hustle and bustle of city life. I thoroughly recommend visiting there, and staying at Brookeside House!

Lovely room, lovely garden, lovely setting but no personal touch. Breakfast was in Cafe Moulin in town and very good.

I'm not sure if you could class this as a B&B but more just a room rental for the night.

Clarens as a town is was quiet and picturesque. Fabulous art galleries with some that were affordable.

Brookeside is a gem! - it's ideally located within walking distance of the town square and has wonderful views of the surrounding mountains. Maryna has made sure that all the little "extras" make your stay a treat - from the sherry to flowers to info on surrounding restaurants and activities. The rooms are very tastefully decorated and have all the comforts needed to deal with the cold of Clarens in July - underfloor heating and warm blankets! We will definitely recommend this B & B.

Please do yourself a favour. If you ever visit Clarens in South Africa (well worth it in its own right!) make sure to stay at Brookside House. Maryna the hostess has established an exquisite four star guest house. It is spotlessly clean, luxurious and is the epitomy of attention to detail. Thank you Maryna - Brookside has quickly become our favourite retreat. Stunning! And just a few steps from the centre of town.
