We enjoy a more quiet, tranquil location so Niriedes Hotel was perfect for us. Being about 10 km or 15 minutes from the main town of Apollonia some might find it a bit out-of-the-way but for those who are looking for peace and quiet, it is ideal.
Our superior room was clean, bright and spacious, impeccably decorated. There was a separate bedroom from a second room that had both a kitchenette (dishes, glassware, cutlery, fridge, sink, stovetop etc.) and a sitting area leading to a narrow terrace with a spectacular view of the harbour and hills beyond.
Thanasis, the owner/manager was always available and very helpful, with suggestions of tavernas, beaches, both convenient and isolated, churches, viewing points etc. One particularly great suggestion was the nearby (3 km) taverna Lebesis. Located at the waters edge, looking out to two beautiful churches situated on rock promontories my wife described Lebesis as the most romantic restaurant she has ever been to ... an observation with which I agree. Imagine spending an afternoon on a nice sandy beach, swimming in the warm Aegean, and then walking only a few steps to a wonderful open air taverna for a meal of superb Greek food - it doesn't get any better.
We spent four days on Sifnos, about the right amount of time. We saw the entire island, from the pretty harbour/village of Heronissos in the north, to Kameras, the port on the west coast, to the medieval cliff-top village of Kastro hugging the sea in the east, to numerous beaches and look-offs in between. We also spent time on Folegandros and Milos, and while each are certainly worth a visit, of the three islands our favourite was Sifnos.
Breakfast at Niriedes is great. A wide selection of pastries, coffee, juice, yoghurt (with fresh fruit or nuts and honey), Sifnos cheese, feta and tomato etc. can all be enjoyed overlooking the bay, beach and village of Platis Yialos.
Niriedes Hotel is well designed as it 'climbs' the hillside with spectacular views. A small, but perfectly located pool provides opportunity to relax. The hotel, accentuated by colourful flowers, is tastefully decorated, with fresh bright colours and interesting artwork, courtesy of Thanasis' wife. Niriedes was a wonderful place to spend our time on Sifnos, a small (nine rooms I believe) boutique hotel we highly recommend.
