“Great diving experience and service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2011

We had a fabulous dive holiday and a thoroughly relaxing time at Divers Lodge. Having read about the limited guest rooms (only 12 guests max), we booked a chalet well in advance and were rewarded with one that had a flushable toilet and great views of Mt Klabat. We stayed in Musang Chalet and it was large and comfortable enough. The walk up was good exercise so be prepared to huff and puff a little. There's no air-con but the fan above the bed makes a big difference in cooling the spacious room. Mozzies were not really an issue, thankfully. Most of our time was spent in the intimate dining lounge, which has free wi-fi & unlimited supply of beverages and snacks. The food was a little predictable after a while but the kitchen staff was very attentive and soon knew about my need for hot chilli for every meal! You'll find that someone is always looking after you, whether it is to serve you a hot cup of tea, plan your dive itinerary for the next day or asking how your day has been. Very warm hospitality. Most of the guests are from Holland and Germany but the ones we met were friendly enough while giving you your own space. We all sit together at the dining table for breakfast and dinner (lunch is usually on the boat) so if you're anti-social or are looking for a private couples-getaway, this may not be ideal for you.

The diving is great if you are into muck diving. We booked the unlimited dive package on a private boat and it was well-worth it, because we could customise our diving plan each day in terms of how many dives we wanted to do, what we wanted to see and how long to stay underwater. The guides are also very good and are able to spot lots of critters. After each dive, we had fresh fruits and hot tea to look forward to. The boat crew also changes your tank after each dive.

Other information: there are two sweet dogs at the resort, one of whom will follow you around for food and pats. The sun rises really early so do make use of the opportunity to listen for the tarsiers and trying to locate the elusive creatures. The taxi ride to Bitung is about 1 hour 15 minutes and the boat ride to Divers Lodge is another 15 mins. Go for the unlimited and private boat package.

Room Tip: Book the Musang Chalet in advance if you want the only bungalow with a flush toilet.

It's like a luxury liveaboard service, just on shore.
The diving is awesome. The diving is seamless with the hotel.
What ever you needed, they've already provided it for you.
No it's not the 4 Seasons, but it's a heck of a place to dive.
Not often I rate a place as 5* but this place merits it.
Would I go back? Hell, yes!

“Everything about this place is awesome with a friendly, efficient service”

I've travelled to many different places for work as a diver for the past 10 years and this place definitely rates as one of the best I've ever been too.

Beautiful, cozy boutique style lodge, full of creature comforts, stunning scenes, beautifully quiet location nestled away from the business of Bitung.

The friendliness of Rob, Linda and all the staff here is superb. Never ending smiles and nothing is too much trouble. The accommodation is great, food is amazing and as for the diving - well - it completely blew me away. The boats are comfortable with unique shelter from the wind or rain and even on-board toilets! The staff are friendly and go out of their way to make sure that your critter wish-for list is firmly accomplished.

Small groups of 2 divers on the boats or even a personal one at an affordable price makes this place stand out, complete with the genuine personal touch.

Can't wait to come back, thanks again for an amazing time. Never believed that I could see 4 mimic octopuses in 2 days .... WOW ....

“Highly recommended, even for non-divers”

We've spent a whole week in Divers Lodge Lembeh with my girlfriend and enjoyed every moment of it. We stayed at bungalow Rajawali which is on the highest spot of the resort, and had the best view to both the lagoon and the volcano situated over Bitung. It was definitely worth a bit of extra climbing up the hill.

The photos of the resort don't lie: the whole place is just as beautiful as you would imagine. The bungalows are huge for 2 people, well furnitured and the ceiling fan is more than enough to make you cool down in the evening. You may be careful about geckos (commonly called chick-chacks), huge bugs and worms especially in the toilet, but they are everywhere anyway, so you'd better get used to it, and don't let them ruin the otherwise incredibly relaxing atmosphere.

The staff, led by the owner, the former Dutch, now Indonesian Rob is very polite and helpful. There are about 40 people for only 10 bungalows, which means that everything goes fluently everytime. You just have to ask and whatever your wish is, it will be fulfilled in minutes.

We had the chance to visit the Minahasa Highlands with Rob as our leader, and during this whole-day trip we learned more about North-Sulawesi and Indonesia than what any travel book could teach us. There are also many other things you can do in North-Sulawesi even if you don't dive, like visiting the nearby Tangkoko National Park, or snorkelling (you can do it from a boat at further diving sites, or at the resort's own reef). We also spent long hours only sittin in the lounge area reading a book or messing around with our computers (by the way, the free wifi is absolutely OK, we had no problems using Skype a lot of times), and never felt that we wasted our time. Yes, it's definitely the most relaxing place we've ever been to.

The food is great with a huge selection of house-cooked, mainly Indonesian food (expect chilli almost everywhere), but those who are only into Western cuisine are also able to find things for their taste. Once they even baked pizza and it was fantastic!

So, what can I say? If you don't want luxury but want peace and kindness somewhere very far from the well known and crowded tourist spots of Indonesia, this place is for you. There's no way you'll get disappointed in Divers Lodge Lembeh.

Room Tip: Bungalow Rajawali is the most separated of all the houses and the view is incredible.

“great place, people and diving!”

We were picked up at the airport no problems and driven to Bitung to transfer to a small speedboat which took around 20 mins to wizz across the straight. We were welcomed by Belgis with some cold nice drinks which was much needed after almost 24 hours travelling from London.

We stayed in tarsius which is the furthest away but i think has the best views! its a wooden bingalow not like the other tiled ones. Dont leave your outside light on when you go for dinner as it attracts weird and wonderful insects!!

Food was always great and varied esp for me as a veggie. There was alwasy so much of it too. They also make you hot snacks when you come back from diving which we though was a really nice touch. The snakcs on the tables were lush too. the pets were nice, snoozy the cat (miss her now) doggie and baby doggie too!

We had toilettries in our room inclding bug spray and mozzie repellent. All the staff remember your name which is good. They provide torches for you to go to your room at night.

dvivng, at first I thought I had made a mistake going there as its very different to anywhere else. Black sand, rubbish in the water and it was quite dark as we didnt have much sun that week. But I was so wrong, we loved it and had Jonny our guide mostly to ourselves for 6 days. really easy diving 60-70 minute dives. I saw everything on my wish list, hairy frog fish mimic octopuses etc. beware of the clown fish here very agressive, but funny they way they protect their homes and family! they provide towells on the boat another bonus point.

the owners were really nice Rob and Linda and went the extra mile to make you feel welcomed. We left our laundry when we moved on to Bunaken and they arranged for it to be delivered the next day!!

I would go back here, the people we met were all great, its brillaint value for money and we wanted to go back as soon as we left. See you again one day Divers Lodge!!!
