We were visiting the Volksfest in nearby Erlangen, where all of the hotels close to the beer were long overbooked. As such, we ended up at the Herzogspark hotel. Snorrrrr.
The hotel has some affiliation with Adidas, located nearby and soccer teams and other sports figures will stay here from time to time. They also have some conference facilities; pretty typical 4 star boringness.
The good? Reception was very friendly, service at breakfast was excellent and very professional, food very good - especially with a hangover. The typical hotel bar is very well stocked with a fine selection of single malts. The room was fine, clean, good shower, etc, if a little too much noise from the hallway.
The bad? The Spa. Typical peach-painted needed to be renovated ten years ago, typical creepy German "wellness" thing with the mandatory naked creepy middle aged Germans. Put on some shorts, lads. Too put the icing on the spa's cake, several of the spa staff were rude in the way that poorly trained shoe-salespeople love to be. "Are you a guest at the hotel?". No, I always wander around with hotel slippers, bathing trunks, and bedhead at 8 in the morning at some crappy spa in the middle of nowhere... Aside from that lovely lady, the service would have got 5 stars - she got 1.
