The small town of Sainte-Julie (a half-hour drive from Montreal) offers a pretty limited selection of restaurants, but we were happy to stumble on Piazza Italia. The atmosphere is quiet, dark, potentially romantic, and expensive. The menu is, in fact, a bit on the pricey side, but the food was really nice. Make no mistake, this is not an Italo-American "red sauce" joint, but really has a pretty authentic and elegant Italian feel. I'm not sure if the pasta was handmade on the premises, but it could well have been. My husband and I both had pasta, I had tortellini in a walnut gorgonzola sauce, which was filling and good. I absolutely loved my dessert, which was grapes in grappa and cassis. It was so simple and yet refreshing and delicious. I think we will definitely come here again next time we are in Sainte-Julie.
