We recently stayed at Backwater Retreat and were amazed to see their hospitality. We were treated like a family member. Our taxi driver took us to a boat house and settled a deal for us, which we thought was unreasonable. We called Mr. Kurian to enquire the prevalent prices. He not only guided us but also spoke to the same operator and got us a really good deal. He arranged a spice plantation walk for us during our stay. Arranged the local conveyence for us and also provided us with the contact numbers in case of any emergency for our next destination. We had to check-out early morning at 6 AM. Mr. Kurian made sure that the breakfast is ready for us as early as 5:30 AM in the morning. The food was tasty and very reasonably priced. The staff was very courteous and helpful.

If you're looking for a luxury accomodation in the heart of the city, this place is not for you, as this is situated a bit far from the hustle bustle of everyday life. It provides a quiet atmosphere if you're looking for a getaway from your humdrum existence. Highly Recommended !!

Just as the heading says, the place is a less of a hotel with its business attitude and more of a homely atmosphere with Mr. Kurian and his son's exceptional hospitality and warmth. Economically priced room facing the backwaters and excellent home-like cooked food is just an added silver lining to this place. One can enjoy the backwaters in the all arranged tour or sit in the terrace balcony staring at the backwaters and the nature surrounding it. We spent two nights in the place and would love to visit there again, if for nothing else then only to meet Mr. Kurian who by my opinion is the best host one can get and is the heart of the resort. He guided us in every means possible to make sure that we have the best tour.

I and my family visited this resort on 26th of Jan 2012. I really like to appreciate the hospitality and it is so peace to stay there with out noise or disbursement. The room service is also great. I met the owner of this resort, He is very sincere to care of his guest. I am really very happy and also my family enjoyed it.Thanks to the management of Back water retreat Kumarakom.

We spent one night here and would recomend this because of its great, out of the way location and experience to enjoy the atmosphere of the backwaters. The owner is very helpful with some great tips for onward journeys, and how to make the most of your time there.He organised a boat trip for us and a visit to the local organic spice farmer which was very interesting and inspiring.We also swam in the waterway from his guesthouse and it was the high light for me.It was recomended by the farmer who has been doing it for 70 years!
