“Fantastic views”

I stayed for the second time in January 2007 with my husband and sister. My sister had a room with small balcony and wonderful views to the hills in the distance. We had a room which was a suite with sofa, t.v. and single beds. The bathroom was stylish and simple with a good hot shower. The owner and collegues were very helpful in advise about Vejer and the area.
The breakfast was self service and very nice however as it was very cold in January the patio heaters should have been switched on prior to breakfast. My sister loved the roof terrace and the warm sun with chairs to relax in. Vejer de la Frontera is a lovely Spanish traditional village with lots of history, bars, views beaches near by and a good selection of restarants for all tastes. Vejer is not for people with walking difficulties as the village is steep and cobbled. However for fit the village is great.

  • Liked — historic, good design location in village
  • Disliked — cold breafast area no heaters switched on prior to breakfast

“Nice, but freezing breakfast”

After reading the positive reviews in Tripadvisor we chose La Botica. And yes, it is beautifully situated, it is quiet and from our room we had a lovely view of the surrounding area. We were also made very welcome by the young man who was there at first; he was knowledgeable about the area and gave us plenty of good tips.
Our only disappointment was breakfast: it was taken in the open patio, and as this was a very cold March we sat there freezing; after a few days a heater was switched on, but this didn't help much. In the mean time the proprietess sat snug and warm in the reception room. Breakfast itself was boring: prepackaged bread, jam, honey, cake and bottled orange juice , day after day after day. Another couple brought some cheese, etc. to complement this meager "feast". What a disappointment after the varied breakfasts we got at our previous address!
So yes, this must be a good place when the weather is fine and you can eat (your own) breakfast on the solarium, which offers a stunning view.

  • Liked — quiet situation in a beautiful village - plenty of beautiful walks in the neighbourhood
  • Disliked — freezing breakfast

“Relaxing, Homely Haven with a View to Die for.”

We stayed for 2 nights at this hotel, at the end of February. Due to it being low season, we were lucky enough to have a choice of rooms, and opted for the one with two single beds, but the best view. Renovated only 18 months ago the whole place was beautifully decorated in a simple, modern style. The rooms were off a central open patio, with a communal kitchen on the ground floor, where breakfast items were laid out each morning, and there was a fridge, coffee machine and dishwasher. Breakfast was very informal and you just helped yourself to bread/toast, cake, fresh orange juice and coffee.

The owner was very friendly and spoke good English with many suggestions for local restaurants and sightseeing tips. You were given key to front door to come and go as you pleased.

I loved our room.. aside from the amazing view, the bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept in. There was a full-size bath and the shower was great. There was air-conditioning which could also heat room if necessary. Only Spanish TV channels (but we weren't there to watch TV!)

Best feature of the hotel was the sun terrace, with deck chairs and table and panoramic views over the countryside. So even if you had one of the rooms without a view you didn't miss out too much.

Only down point was lack of parking. Hotel suggested Plaza Espagna, just below hotel, but we had to park a bit further away, which isn't too bad if you're fit enough to wheel your luggage up a couple of steep cobbled streets.

Vejer's a great little town.. we found plenty of bars/restaurants for a couple of days. Didn't even get chance to venture into the modern half of the town. Great base for exploring area... can recommend Cape Trafalgar, just 15 mins or so away.

  • Liked — Views from window and terrace... Town's atmosphere
  • Disliked — Wheeling luggage uphill from nearest parking (which was free though)

“A real gem!”

La Botica is a perfect base for the visitor to Vejer and the Costa de La Luz. I stayed here alone briefly in August 2005 just after it had opened and was made to feel very welcome, so much so that my wife and I spent two weeks there later last year. I returned briefly last week and the Hostal is as clean and welcoming as before, if not better, as the same staff made my return very special.
The rooms are tasteful, clean, comfortable and importantly, very Andalucian. The roof terrace provides a magnigicant panorama of La Janda, especially at dawn and dusk. The view not only captures the surrounding countryside with distant views of Medina Sidonia and the National Park, but overlooks the beautiful Plaza d' Espana in Vejer. The patio area with adjacent kitchenette, is perfect for a typical breakfast and chat to start the day.
The fact that it is difficult to park outside La Botica should not put you off as there is nearby parking, and the advantages of being so central far outweigh the disadvantages. The town is a gem in what is an excellent, unassuming, as yet, unspoilt area of Spain.
