Vejer is a lovely little town, more touristy then we would have liked but it was July. It is was so hot in Andalucia at this time and the rooms in Botica are very small and claustrophobic. We were given a room with a lovely view but unfortunately at night, when it was impossible to sleep, you can't leave the window open because of the numerous mosquitoes. The air conditioning unit wasn't great at keeping the room cool, it's a case of too hot or too cold. Tip, don't go for a room around the courtyard as they would be very noisy. Also the solarium on the roof is a bit of a joke, no umbrellas (in that heat) and no sunbeds so it wasn't very comfortable, just deck chairs and normal seats.
The most disappointing thing was the breakfast, and the attitude when we complained about it. We were told it wasn't a B&B (even though it markets itself as such) when we arrived, they said it's a hostel and the breakfast is 'free'. Code for: don't complain about it. At 80 euro a night, I expect breakfast, nothing fancy, a decent coffee and some fresh bread is okay. The bread was out of a freezer and was hard in the middle, horrible, the coffee was gone and there was a bag of stale buns. We were going to stay 2 nights, but left as the attitude when we complained was not on.
The good side is we got lots of advice on where to go and when we asked for a mosquito plug, we got one. It is amazing how unprepared hotels/B&Bs are for the intense heat and mosquitoes. It's like going to siberia and having no heating or they asking you did you not bring your own portable heater?!
