We stayed for 8 nights in one of the main house apartment/suites. The apartment was very comfortable, clean and had a nice view of the countryside from our bedroom and livingroom.
We did not rent a car during our entire stay and were able to get around easily by foot, provided bicycles and bus (there is also a local train that has several Tuscany destinations but we did not use that while we were there). One of our favorite outings was riding the bicycles provided by the B & B through the hills to the little medieval villages of Radi and Ville De Corsana. Bicycling through the hills was definately good exercise to work off all the good food we enjoyed during the week. We rode through the countryside that was dotted with olive groves, vineyards, castles, old churches dating back to the 1100s!
We were also able to use the local bus system to get into Siena a couple of the days we were there and thoroughly enjoyed the market there on Wednesday, the food at Le Torre (recommended by the innkeepers), and a winery tour of San Gimaginano and the Chianti region (highly recommend, only 38 euros per person and booked through the information center on the Campo in Siena). We also took the bus to Buonconvento (a beautiful village about 10 k from where we were staying.)
The village of Monteroni D'arbia where the B & B is located is only a 10 minute walk. In the town, there is a lovely mill park with swans, grocery stores, a "pasta fresco" store where we purchased the most amazing homemade pasta to enjoy in our apartment/suite, a couple of cafe/bars, a pizzeria, banks, a restaurant, a wonderful gelato store that we frequented several times during our stay, a fabulous bakery, clothing store, garden store, everything we needed for our stay. There was also a "farmers market" set up in the village on Tuesday, which featured clothing, household items, cheeses, shoes, boots, sausages, flowers and local produce.
We enjoyed riding bikes to the next medieval town "Monte Lucianano" (less than 2 miles) and dining at the Hotel Borgo, one of our favorite restaurants during our visit to Italy. The service and food were outstanding and very reasonable.
The property of San Fabiano is beautiful and we enjoyed local cheese, bruschetta and great Italian wine in the gardens. THe kitchenette in our apartment was very well equipped and we were able to prepare breakfast and snacks with ease. There is also a very large kitchen available for guest use on the main floor.
We especially enjoyed the warm hospitality of the owners Filippo and Rachael and assistant innkeeper, Alessandra. They were very helpful in all aspects and went above and beyond what we expected!!
I highly recommend San Fabiano to other visitors looking to enjoy the culture, hidden gems, scenery, and relaxation in Tuscany that made our trip so special.
