We stayed at the Claridges, Surajkund, New Delhi for business for 3 nights as it was the closest hotel of this type to where we were doing business in Faridabad. On their website they have a box for preferences and one is to be either picked up or dropped at or from the airport. We clicked for one option and then needed to call the hotel to arrange to be picked up. When we checked out we found this one-way option was chargeable, and expensive, 1,900 and some Indian Rupees. There is no central heating for the rooms, only AC so in winter, when we stayed, the rooms were cold the whole time even after we had the monitor adjusted to a higher temperature it does not matter as there is no system to generate hot air only cold. The food was expensive as well for both the Continental as well as the Indian fair, approx. 70-80 US Dollars for a simple meal from room service and the quality of the food was quite low. Many Dhabas (street restaurants) in India serve better. One of the companies we own is a luxury tour operation so we are accustomed to dealing with high end properties, of which India has many that are worthy of this title. Our experience at the Claridges, Surajkund is it is not worthy of showing itself in the same category of other higher level hotels in India. Attention to detail, food quality, and being up front with all charges are some of the marks that make a hotel great . The staff from room service, concierge and the service of the driver as well were all very courteous and kind which is something this hotel has done well.
