“expensive without attention to detail”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

We stayed at the Claridges, Surajkund, New Delhi for business for 3 nights as it was the closest hotel of this type to where we were doing business in Faridabad. On their website they have a box for preferences and one is to be either picked up or dropped at or from the airport. We clicked for one option and then needed to call the hotel to arrange to be picked up. When we checked out we found this one-way option was chargeable, and expensive, 1,900 and some Indian Rupees. There is no central heating for the rooms, only AC so in winter, when we stayed, the rooms were cold the whole time even after we had the monitor adjusted to a higher temperature it does not matter as there is no system to generate hot air only cold. The food was expensive as well for both the Continental as well as the Indian fair, approx. 70-80 US Dollars for a simple meal from room service and the quality of the food was quite low. Many Dhabas (street restaurants) in India serve better. One of the companies we own is a luxury tour operation so we are accustomed to dealing with high end properties, of which India has many that are worthy of this title. Our experience at the Claridges, Surajkund is it is not worthy of showing itself in the same category of other higher level hotels in India. Attention to detail, food quality, and being up front with all charges are some of the marks that make a hotel great . The staff from room service, concierge and the service of the driver as well were all very courteous and kind which is something this hotel has done well.

Room Tip: If you need to stay in Surajkund or this part of Faridabad and wish to stay here then we would sugge...

“First Rate Service in Faridabad”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

This hotel was recommended to us by our hosts, long time residents of Faridabad. The room was first rate (comfortable bed, well appointed bathroom, easy to understand thermostat, fresh fruit, bottled water and newspaper delivered daily). The breakfast was nothing short of luxurious. Full English breakfast, continental breakfast, Indian breakfast, and American cereals served with a smile by Natika - who called us by name every morning. Dinner in Dhaba was a great way for Westerners to experience the famous road side stand cuisine served all over India. Sunday Brunch in Oasis was also spectacular (if overpriced). The travel desk was extremely helpful and our driver, Nikka, took us to our destinations by way of the most scenic routes - often stopping to visit important sites (India Gate) or feed the monkeys. The only negatives were the power outages common in Haryana, and a foolish policy of charging already heavily paying customers extra for internet. On the rates - if you book locally you get a lower rate, but then don't get frequent flyer miles.

Room Tip: Rooms that face the back are quiet, but the view is not very nice - a big hole in the ground with fe...

“Visit only during Summer”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Hi, After experimenting with different hotels in Faridabad, I decided to stay with Claridges as it was one of the better hotels in the area. But after the stay, I learnt that its not the same always! It started with the Rate. The online rate was quite different as compared to what I paid thru my company agent. I paid a higher price as compared to online rate!! On enquiring later, they just refused to answer stastifactorily on the reason! The rate this time was much higher as compared to what I paid in Summer. The reason for this discrepancy was peak tariff rate and lean season tariff rate.

The eating options (Vegetarian) continued to be limited. I checked with the kitchen if they could cook something plain and simple. They obliged with a spinach stuffed pasta but the quantity was so little that in three bites it was over!! I had to order something more that night and it was quite frustrating experience. the internet which was free last time was charged 800 bucks!

The overall service was poor compared to last time due to the heavy rush and hence pls stay here only during the summer or incase you just want to spend a night and not really taste anything thats cooked in the kitchen especially if you are a vegetarian.

For the higher price i paid and the food option it was not value for money as compared to the experience in summer. So visit this place only during summer!!

Room Tip: Consider the room that opens up to the front and not to the back!!

“good value-hotel but HORRIBLE location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

Pros:
- beautiful hotel
- good restaurants
- no noise
- well-priced

Cons:
- staff at restaurants were very aggressive and keep trying to make you order more.
- AWFUL AWFUL location. Distance-wise it does not look too far out, but the hotel is located in an area with horrible traffic. Took 1-2 hours to get into Old Delhi depending on traffic. Essential to have a drive if you decide to stay out here.
- parts of hotel were under construction, so some of the views were of construction pits.
