“A bit underwhelming for the price”

This B&B was very clean, newly furnished, had lots of parking, a strong wifi connection, good shower pressure, and the husband of the family, who served us breakfast, seemed nice.

However, compared to all the other B&Bs we stayed at in Ireland the overall service was a bit unfriendly. The wife seemed distracted, and not at all chatty or inquisitive like other hosts typically were, and you got the uncomfortable feeling that you were intruding somewhat. By the sounds of the other reviews though, I wonder if perhaps she was just having a bad day.

Also, the room cost the same as what we paid in Cork, where we got over-the-top amazing service. Besides which, there is a lot for travellers to see and do in Cork, whereas to be honest there is basically no reason to be in Crossmollina – not very pretty, nothing much to do, and nowhere to eat except a takeaway pizza shop. (We didn’t know this when we booked.) For such a small town with no real attractions, I don’t think the room should have cost 80 euros.

I wouldn’t recommend this place, nor would I recommend Crossmollina – you could just as easily stay somewhere nearby like Westport or Achill Island, which both have more charm.

Regarding the above review we do not charge 80 euros for our rooms - The booking was through a agent where you would pay commission - we charge 60 euro max for our rooms and that would be the case when all our guests check out. I feel the comment about Crossmolina itself is a bit harsh as we are in beautiful countryside surrounded by mountains, hills, rivers and lakes. If you did your research properly there is plenty to do in the area. Crossmolina Town is one of the tidest Towns in Mayo and have won and been runners up in Tidy Towns and Pride of Place which is based on the appereance of town and the community spirit. Crossmolina can not be compared to Cork as it is only a small rural town in The North West of Ireland. I am disappionted to hear that I came across unwelcoming . I am not a person who will chat on if I feel there is no feedback but I am quite happy to chat to answer questions and provide information . It looks like from your negative review that maybe you were having a bad day . We have many repeat guests who are happy with the sevice we offer. I am just sorry that you do not feel this way.

“Handy for Lough Conn and Fishing”

Location is just off the main road and about 3/4 mile walk to Lough Conn Pier. The room was modern and new, a good size with wardrobe, bottled water, tea and coffee making and TV. A nice good sized bathroom. The house had plenty of off road parking. No guest lounge.
The breakfast was very good, well presented and lots of choice. Unless I missed it, I could not see the lake from the B&B.

“Fabulous B&B, beautiful countryside and welcoming people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 April 2010

Stayed for 5 days in this fabulous B&B occupying 3 rooms. Very well situated and surrounded by stunning scenery. Great view from the dining room! Less than an hours drive from Knock airport.
Had a fantastic and very relaxing stay in this fabulous B&B. Breakfasts are fabulous and we were made to feel very welcome. Rooms are furnished to a very high standard and are very spacious. Hosts are very accomodating, friendly and helpful. Cannot recommend Lake View House highly enough, the rooms are excellent. We will be back! Many thanks. The Donovan's (Bham and Worcs).

A perfect place for a short break. Comfortable beds showers that work and one of the best breakfasts we have had.The family who run the B&B were extremely helpful with advice on places of interest and even helped with plotting a route!
