I stayed here with my boyfriend when we were self-driving around Italy. The hotel was grand, and every luxury taken care of. It's not exactly the quaint farmhouse experience that I had in mind, but with the oppressive summer heat I was overjoyed with the air conditioned rooms and pool. Four-star luxury for the same price as what we paid for a double room in a run-down youth hostel in south of France! We couldn't believe it.
I'm incredibly heat-intolerant (which makes me a pretty useless Australian) and I might have preferred the pool to be a little cooler, however it was still refreshing and a perfect respite from the heat. I've read in earlier reviews that some people didn't like that the air con turned off when you removed your keys, however that is generally the status quo in Europe and it's a sensible energy-saving measure. The room cools quickly when you put your key back in the slot.
We ate every night at the nearby towns (I recommend eating at the restaurant overlooking the town square in Saturnia!) so I can't comment on the main restaurant at the hotel, however the breakfasts were lovely. I also had a wonderful massage in the day spa (although I would have appreciated a little more air con in the spa rooms). The stand out for me were the staff. Roberta greeted us at the front desk with the genuine friendly hospitality typical of the hotel.
I would recommend this hotel to anybody wanting a luxurious four-star experience in rural Tuscany. Like I said, it's not exactly the quaint vine-covered farmhouse that I had in mind, but when I was lounging by the pool with a cold G&T and a book I didn't care.
