“Dont take a taxi in Scarperia!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2011

My wife and I stayed here for 14 nights in October for a golfing holiday.
The golf course is excellent (very tough for high handicappers) with some of the best greens I have ever played on
Highly recommend you hire a car otherwise you are rather stuck at the hotel which although very nice is quite expensive when you eat lunch and dinner there every day. About 80/90 euros dinner for 2 with wine soon mounts up over 14 nights!!
Had the reception order us a taxi one evening to eat out in Scarperia and when we arrived at the restaurant, the driver asked for 25 euros (just a 5 kilometer trip)--clearly a thief!! I gave him 10 and sent him on his way. So, be warned, get a price before you take a cab.
Otherwise a good experience, all staff (except for the short little Maitre De) were very keen to impress, helpful and pleasant. The little Maitre De (as opposed to the tall one who was fine) was the most obnoxious and arrogant little man we have ever met---God knows how he is in this job--I suspect he will be gone before long.
The American Bar next to the restaurant is OK but with 2 G&T's for 20 Euros, a little overpriced as are the drinks in the rooms mini bar.
Take a tip and visit the local cash and carry where you can buy a very good local Chianti for 3 euros a bottle and keep a few bottles in the room. (also buy some drinking water, decant into small bottles and store them in the rooms mini fridge)

Room Tip: We had the standard room which was fine. Large balcony with nice view of the countryside. Spacious...

“Lovely setting and hotel, but you WILL need a car”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2011

Beautiful hotel and setting in the Tuscan countryside, we went to play golf and hopefully manage some sight seeing as well, we unfortunately thought we were nearer to Scarperia than we were, and did not hire a car, so were in effect were stranded! Taxi's are prohibitive, £20-25 to go about 5K!! We were lucky that some other hotel guests generously invited us to join them for dinner so we did "get out". Having said that Florence is easily accessible by train from nearby San Piero a Sievre as are many other famous attractions.
The hotel was beautiful, and our apartment amazing, it overlooked the 4th green!! The food was OK but a bit repetitive, most guests seemed to eat out so the restaurant lacked atmosphere, lunch was served by the pool, but was expensive, £10-12 for a salad.
The only thing that let the hotel down was that some of it's staff lacked people skills and were down right rude, oh well can't have it all ways!!

“comfort and great golf”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

We stayed one week with unlimited golf and a package deal that included also 2 dinners.
Accomodations were excellent: huge room and bathroom, nice amenities, good housekeeping and environmentaly respectful, bed very comfortable. Breackfast was good and cappucinos galore if asked for (or expresso at no extra charge!). It is also served much later than announced.)
The personnel were were very good although a simple questions about railroad times gave a flase answer. Better to look that up yourselves. The golf was excellent but if you don't play, no reason to stay there as it is a few klms from Scarperia, 30 klms from Florence but in the middle of beautiful Tuscany but nowhere. You have to have a car!!!
Negative aspects included long to come hot water in sinks, wifi use has to be paid for, bar drinks expensive (better to eat out; you'll find restaurants close to drive to and much better and cheaper).
The TV was old style and small and was out of context with the deluxe accomodations.
The spa was not in working condition when we were there and although I asked for some kind of compensation (the golf and spa were the 2 main things we came for), I never heard from the manager although I was told I would! But the week was very enjoyable and worth it.

Room Tip: go for the rooms with view of golf course

“The staff at the restaurant and hotelbar don't give a ---- about customers.”

Fantastic rooms, great view and beautiful golfcourse, but don't order a drink or a meal,it's one of the worst hotels i've ever stayed at.
You can't buy a decent glass of wine, you have to buy the bottle. The kitchen is bad. The restaurant staff sucks, not friendly.
For a good meal go to Villa Le Maschere,it's the best, very friendly staff and you can buy a decent glass of wine, whitout buying a bottle.

We are very happy to read that you have appreciated the room and golf course and I do apologize for an isolated bad moment that you lived in our restaurant.
I'd rather to inform you that we have opened the restaurant on the swimming pool during the week end where we serve a fantastic Tuscany grilled meat. I have the pleasure to invite you to test our new proposal.

“Stunning location, great golfing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2010

Wonderful location. Spacious room (we were upgraded to an executive room on arrival) Luxurious bathroom. Housekeeping was spotless. Staff were pleasant and attentive. Caddy master very helpful. Only used the steam room once but spa area is pleasant.. The pool was closed as out of season. Buffet breakfast was comprehensive, with a choice of hot and cold dishes. Also delicious pastries. The golf course was stunning. Definitely hope to return.
