“Very friendly staff, clean, charming”

It's a nice, clean family-run hotel in a community outside Florence. It's a short walk to an ATAF bus stop. The number 30 takes you to the Stazione in Florence, from which it is very easy to walk to the sights you wish to see. Coming back, be sure to take the 30B, not the 30A. The elderly gentleman (the head of the family) does not speak English, but his son and daughter do. If you will take the time to learn basic survival phrases in Italian: please, thank you, excuse me, where is...? How are you, my name is, etc., you will get along fine with the older gentleman. The family is very friendly, very accommodating, flexible to your needs. The price is very reasonable compared to hotels in the city center. If you have an early flight out from the airport, it is also nice that you are closer to it than you would be from the center of Florence.

Room Tip: If you are traveling with children, room 37 is a great choice. Two double beds, one single. That'...

“Comfortable enough”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2011

Just to make it clear, there is nothing central about this hotel, other than it is in the center of Campi Bisenzio, which is about 25 - 30min bus ride from the center of Florence. No complaints as this hotel was cheap, and I got what I paid for. Make sure you know how to get here as it is not easy to find. Another thing is that you need to pay for your stay when you check out. I heard multiple arguments from people who booked through a major internet wholesaler and thought their booking was fully prepaid. Limited English abilities was making the arguments worse. Bottom line, read the fine print of your booking.

The good:
1. The staff is very friendly.
2. Free internet access. (but the computer was riddled with viruses)
3. Cheap
4. Lots of little stores and restaurants in the area
5. Close to a very big supermarket. (8 min walk)

The bad:
1. You cannot drive here. The whole area is inacessible by car
2. The staff does not speak very much English.
3. The bed was uncomfortable.
4. You can hear everything that happens in the hotel.

If you are a picky person, choose another hotel. If you are just looking for a cheap place to rest your head, this hotel will do just fine.

“Bad vibe in Bisenzio”

Campi Bisenzio, about 15 minutes outside of Florence, was a less-than-charming neighborhood. First, there was nowhere to park at the hotel so we chanced parking our rental car on a side street. The hotel was hard to find at it was just a little hole-in-the-wall in a small square. Once inside, we found we were seconds to late to grab an Ethernet cord for Internet access. When we got to our room we found two twin beds and a shower that was more like a bideau. Wait, isn't that French? Anyhow, we ended up canceling our reservations here altogether because it just wasn't a good fit and we were already restless from the hectic driving in Florence proper. Bottom line, this place was a dump.

“A bit tatty in places, but charming enough, and with very friendly staff.”

We stayed at the Hotel Centro for one night, as a stop off on our road trip between Florence & Pisa.
The hotel was fairly difficult to find, because it's not on a main street (it sits in the pedestrianised town square), and it's parking was limited to one reserved space in a car park opposite the square.
The hotel itself would be near impossible to enter if you are of limited mobility - 4 steps to go up to get to the door, then up another steep staircase to reception, then more steps up & down into the rooms. So if you're disabled, don't stay here.
The room was clean and comfortable, but a the decor was a little dated inside. The bathroom was the same but slightly tatty. The shower door didn't close properly, and the wall was unpainted in places.
This didn't really bother us, because it was cheap and we only stayed one night - but I wouldn't recommend this for longer stays.
I should also mention that the staff were incredibly friendly, although be warned, they do not speak any English!
If you're staying here, I can also recommend the superb Pizza restaurant around the corner. Go out of the hotel, turn right & walk through the square, then start heading right down the main street. Then turn at the first left you come to, in another mini-square and it's up on your left. The food is fantastic and there is a lovely garden to sit in out the back. The owner speaks very good English too.

“Not what was expected!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2008

Let me start off by saying that 2 kilometers from the airport is a really long way from the city center. It said 10 kilometers online, but that is a 50 dollar cab ride basically. We were under the impression that it would be easy to get back to Florence to see some sites before we left for home. We were ever so wrong. We got in a taxi at the Florence train station, and the taxi driver said something in Italian, but basically that we should not stay in Campi Bisenzio with a baby. The town wasn't too bad, but the hotel was not at all what was described on Expedia. The bed was horribly uncomfortable, the baby bed was a twin bed put in our room. This might have been fine for a 2 year old, but our baby is 1 and you cannot put a one year on a bed with no rails. The review on one website we looked at said they were english speaking, but the man at the desk did not even know how to say hello or goodbye. I don't expect everyone to speak english in another country; however, if you put online that you do and I am needing a taxi called at 5 am, I expect someone to be able to understand me. The airconditioning was non-existant, which is not really uncommon in Italy. There was a unit, but we had no way to turn it on in our room, and my inlaws turned theirs on but it didn't make it any cooler. We had to walk quite a distance to find any dinner. There was a trattoria right across from the hotel, but it didn't open until 8 pm, and we had a baby who needed to go to sleep. We had an amazing time in Italy, but this hotel was just a joke really. The beds were uncomfortable, there was no breakfast, no internet access, and there is nothing to do in the town, but it was too far away from Florence to go back. Two women pulled up in a cab after we did and you could tell they were both very concerned about the location and quality of the hotel when they got there.

Overall, I would not stay here again. We were looking for a cheap hotel to stay in before we flew out, but I would make sure I stayed closer to the airport and in a placethat was little nicer next time. This place may be fine for some people, but for anyone with children, or anyone who is used to a cheap hotel being a holiday inn express or something of that nature, this will not suit you.

  • Liked — It added something funny to tell about our trip to Italy (really nothing)
  • Disliked — There was no baby bed, and no one spoke english
