“We would call this place avarage in all means...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2011

We booked a family room at what they call "atrium ". The room seemed to be rather old, it had no A/C and in the summer the room turned really hot! As the only window where towards another wall it didn't help by openeing that. We where also sceptical about the fire exit. The sleeping sofa for the kids where hard to lay at and the sheets where worn almost apart. We also had problems because the reservation should have been payed before arrival, but somehow it had not been made so we needed to pay at arrival. The breakfast where ok. They had what you would expect and it looked clean. The dinner buffet had really good food, but the price where way to high! The positive thing is that the food has plenty of options for ppl with food allergies.
The swimming pool area is ok for children. In the summer the outside part is fun for children. But the nearby medieval Gordarrike park we found boring. The stay turned out as the "roadstop" it was for us. I wouldn't recommend a stay at Pers for vacation purpose.

“Hotel (and motel) with spa and aqua land”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

Pers is a resort, with both classy hotel rooms and cheap lousy motel rooms in adjacent buildings. The restaurants are quite ok, and staff is friendly. A weekend in the mountains, followed by a good massage in the spa and hot tub in Tropicana revives you completely.
Prices for hotel rooms are somewhat stiff, but motel rooms are moderately priced, giving acces to the same facilities.
We've had company x-mas parties at Pers, held conferences there and used the facilities as private citizens. Although certainly not perfect, it's still a place we keep coming back to again and again...

“Cheap Motel, with terrible food”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 April 2011

Just arrived home from our trip to Gol. To call this place a RESORT is very misleading. This place is a cheap motel if that. Probably built in the 70s and NOTHING has been done to it since.
Major issues, NO AIR circulation in the rooms - A/C doesn't work, windows don't open. NOT all rooms have phones or fridges. Phone is not always essential, since I was traveling with an infant alone, could of been useful to ring front desk for some necessary issues, i.e. to come and turn the AC on or open the windows/patio door before we both suffer from heath exhaustion.

Helping you in with your luggage is something unheard of in that hotel. Under normal circumstances, I can carry my own luggage in; this time, I was traveling with my infant son alone - couldn't juggle the luggage and him. After explaining myself a few times, somebody finally came along to help me with my stuff into the room.

I usually don't care about a hotel's decor, so I'm not going to comment on the decor, the only thing though, that the hallways are filthy, and very run down... Rooms are adequate, but definitely nothing special. If you want a double bed, you get two single beds pushed together, otherwise you end up with two single beds in a room with a night stand between it.

We moved from the 1st floor to the 3rd floor -- there was a major difference in the rooms between the two floors. Having said that, the AC still didn't work, but at least we were able to open the windows in our room. Unfortunately we ended up getting a room which shares a door with the joining room. So the noise level was unbearable until 0100 or so... cause the Norwegian family next door was there with 3 children and they didn't have a bed time... So if you do decide to stay there, do request a room on the top floor but make sure you get one which has a wall between your room and the next room and not just a door.

FOOD: The question should be WHAT FOOD? This was Easter Weekend and certainly there was a very poor choice of food. Breakfast, you get your standard eggs, bacon etc. EXCEPT there never seems to be freshly made scrambled eggs or much of it left by the time we got to breakfast... Breakfast suppose to be open until 1100 we were there by 0900-0930 and there was not much food left to choose from. Dinner was equally poor and with very little selection. For the price one pays you would think you would get a grand buffet.

The Tropicana Water Park, what a JOKE... Again, this is something that was probably a really amazing thing back in the 70s, but now... it is extremely outdated, could use a good scrub down and a lot of maintenance. My son who is 8 months goes baby swimming on a regular basis -- he loves ducking under water, but there was no chance for him, cause the kiddie pool was barely 20cm deep, and the big pool which also turns into a wave pool was just way too cold for both of us to be in. By the way, in the kiddie pool children up to 7 years are allowed which is kind of ridiculous if you are there with an infant or a toddler and these bigger kids slide on top of them... I didn't have a chance to try out the water slides, so no comment on that. Change rooms were horrific, floors dirty, despite the fact that you had to remove shoes before entering the change room. showers, grubby and bench in the sauna broken.
To sit under a light for light therapy can be beneficial in the winter months, but then they should have set it up with an inviting nice atmosphere, that one would want to sit there.

There is not a single pamphlet, map or anything in the room or at reception to give you any ideas of what you can do in the area -- where to go for a hike or a walk. What events are in the area, what one can do with children... In the room, there is no information about the hotel, i.e. restaurant opening hours, food selection, room service, internet NOTHING... it's all a guessing game... So if you don't have a phone in your room guess what, you would be running back and forth all day long just to find out some info.

Maybe for Norwegian this is a really great RESORT... but for anybody else who has traveled before, I think would be much better satisfied staying somewhere else. It's expensive and get absolutely NOTHING for your money. Overall very disappointing!

“Great fun in the piano bar”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 April 2011

Forget the date given here. It was the 2nd half of July 2007. We were driving through Norway and fancied a night in a hotel, just to pamper ourselves a bit and stayed here.

There was a kind of water world / aqualand that was too full of kids to be much fun so we just enjoyed drinking beer from the supermarket in our room and relaxing. We had a bit of a wander around Gol which was OK and when we got back to the hotel, a mad piano player from the UK was playing in the piano bar and we had such a good laugh in there. Later on we were getting a bit tired and the piano player took a break and they started playing real loud techno music so we left.

“Ok, but there are better options out there”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2011

Stayed here for a weekend, the idea was to have a relaxing weekend with my new girlfriend. Check in was fine, and the size of the room was ok, but both the rooms and the hotel in general is ready for a complete refurbishing to defend the prices they are charging. The bathrooms seemed worn down, hallways could be repainted or made nicer.
Staff, reception in particular, could be more helpful. Getting an iron to iron shirts would proove difficult. How about an ironing room, or more irons than just one burnt one?
Hotel seemed a little understaffed. Staff in the restaurant were friendly once you got their attention. Food was above average, the "pinnekjøtt" was very good.
I would never complain on other guests behaviour, but if you choose this hotel be prepared for masses of running, screaming and playing children, and drunk and loud men of all ages. Next time I will drive a little further, the nearby township of Geilo has excellent options.
