“Great hotel for ski holiday, friendly staff, nice bars, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 February 2011

We stayed half board for a ski holiday (6 couples age 30 to 38). Initaly after some confusion with our booking we were allocated 3 rooms which were in need of refurbishment. However after further complaints we were moved to some nice rooms on the 3rd floor. The hotel staff were very helpful and understood our initial
concerns. The hotel has very nice bar areas which were quiet every evening - no noisy disco or DJ. The breakfast was excellent (buffet style) evening food ok - soup and bread starter then meat and veg main. If you didnt like the main course there was always an alternative. Note there is a charge for dessert !!!!? The skiing in Hemsedal is great and there are enough runs for all abilities. For experts the off-piste powder is fantastic and excellent instructors can be booked at the resort. Don't expect any cheap beer or wine even at the supermarket, buy all your booze at duty free :-) if you want a break from skiing I recommend a visit to Hemsedal Huskies

“Fantastic food and cozy hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 November 2010

We were here i april last winter, and had a fantastic stay at Skogstad. The food was great, we stayed for one week, and had a two course dinner midweek, and a fantastic three course dinner friday and saturday... The service and staff were so pleasant, and we were helped with everything from skipass to activities like snoscootering..
We asked for a room away from the nightclub, so we were not bothered by any noise.
We defenitly reccoment this hotel for our friends...

“No Sleep at the Skogstad”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 November 2010

You expect that ski resorts can be a little rowdy, but this was on another level alltogether. We were shaken out of bed by the nightclub around 11. I t was astonishingly loud. My first thought was to a demand another room, but after getting dressed and walking round the corridors, concluded that there would be nowhere you could sleep. The nightclub stopped at 2.30 am and fortunately only operates at weekends. Hemsedal is a great ski resort and we may well be back, but will not be staying at the Skogstad.

“Not that that good as 2009!no buffet anymore!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 March 2010

My boyfriend and I stayed at the hotel the 2nd time, last year we really liked it. The location is good, skibus for free. wireless free internet in the lobby. rooms ok (but no bathtub). Spa area ok, but not really relaxing (hometrainers etc in the relax area- loud)- +++ massage chair!!! You have to go through reception to get there- fulldressed!
--- no buffet at the evenings! just one maincourse (no starter) and one dessert. No possibility to choose. If you dont like it you can eat childrens menu (sausage and pommes frites) or just parts of the meal (vegetables). food was good, but maybe not everyone`s taste (moose, duck, fish). Breakfast starts at 8:00 (little late if you want to be at the slopes at 9:00). No warm water for the tea 2 times; Service average.

“Better than expected, and not noisy at all”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 October 2009

My wife and I stayed with a group of about 25 others at this hotel for a weekend and had a great time there. The food was excellent despite being a buffet, the staff were polite and helpful and the rooms clean and warm which is just what you want after a full day skiing.

The bars and sauna provided a bit of interest outside of the skiing although be warned that the sauna/steam rooms are for both sexes regardless.

The ski bus stops 100m away over a metal bridge which isn't much fun in boots and the ski locker is a bit basic being just a shed...

The disco is noisy but we were on the third floor and could not hear a thing.

Indeed the hotel was so good that they kept hold of my ski gloves that I left behind until we could pick them up the next time we visited.
