“Great hotel in beautiful spot”

Beautiful setting at the head of a small loch. We had a twin room in the old building – nicely furnished (attractive use of Scottish fabrics), fantastic view along the loch. Comfortable bar, with fine views. Very good food, attractively presented, and served in stylish restaurant, again with fine views from the lower end of the dining room. House wine reasonably priced, and a good pint of Red Cuillin traditional ale. Very good breakfast. Very friendly staff.
We did a walk along the loch and saw otters feeding, and a golden eagle flying by. Would definitely return.

“A luxurious lodge in a lovely location, and the premier place to stay in the Uists.”

We took the wrong "track" down to the Lodge, as the road signs are confusing, and the approach is not via the Locheport road, which is on the other side of the loch. However, it is only a short distance from the main Lochmaddy to Clachan Rd. and just as well, as there are only rudimentary passing places before reaching the Lodge. We had anticipated a rather formal atmosphere, but this was dispelled by a most friendly and welcoming reception. However, it is ideally situation for fishing, and, not unexpectedly, there were a number of shall we say "county types" with a desire to dominate the bar area with recounting their fishing triumphs. However, the lounge area was most comfortable, and we had a large, beautifully appointed room with a luxurious bathroom, and sensational views over the lochs, having merely specified a twin room.
The food was as good as we had anticipated, with wonderful local produce, and mouth watering succulent scallops, and in a restaurant with amazing views, enhanced by a wonderful sunset. However, the occasion did not seem as "timeless", as the location suggested, and we felt that the staff we unnecessarily prescriptive about the timing of breakfast on a Saturday morning in the Outer Isles.
With an imaginative playground area for young children, and a network of paths and walks in such a beautiful area, there was plenty for families to do, and Lochmaddy was only a quarter an hour away by car.

Room Tip: I am not sure, as we seem to have been very lucky, but just specify size, and above all, the view, w...

“A class act in the Isles”

A great find. We had one of the new rooms - large, light, comfortable, well equipped, wonderful views, decent size bathroom. Food in the bar and at breakfast was excellent. Proper ingredients done well and with lots of seafood. Best chowder ever.
High standards with relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Perfect combination. This place is definitely a cut above.
Above all, the owners really seemed to want their guests to enjoy themselves and went out of their way to be helpful and hospitable - a surprisingly rare occurrence in the so-called hospitality industry.

“Great wee place; we'll be back!”

Comfortable, spacious room with fabulous views out towards the loch. We ate in the bar the first night and the restaurant on our second; both were great in their own ways. The laidback, cosy atmosphere in the bar was perfect after our long journey up from Barra in the rain. My wife and I both went for the calamari and loved it. Simple food, but great all the same. In the restaurant the food was on a whole other level, probably the best scallops and lobster I've ever eaten! Breakfast was great also, with a wide selection of continental and cooked. Local staff were all very pleasant and polite.

Room Tip: It's worth paying that little bit extra for one of the new rooms.

“Fantastic, would love to go back”

This was one of 5 upmarket B&B / Guesthouses where my husband and I stayed during a road trip through the Highlands and the Western isles. We absolutely loved this place and regret we could not stay longer. Dinner was amazing with the best, biggest, freshest and most succulent scallops I have ever had - apparently hand caught by the owner (Niall) and other delicious local fish & vegetables. The dining room is lovingly decorated with very tasteful colours and has a huge window (as does the lounge) offering beautiful views over the Loch and the garden. Breakfast was a treat served by his beautiful smiling wife Amanda. Our room was fabulous, well appointed, tastefully decorated and very clean, the same went for the bathroom. Stunning views from our room and pretty much every other place in the Lodge over Loch Eport completed the dream.
